Whoopi Goldberg was canceled, and I want to say good. Why do I want to say good? Do I support canceling people for saying stupid and ignorant things? Do I think people should be canceled when they say something transcendentally dumb? Or when they say something that's racist or actually really racist? Yes. Yes, I do. I now believe in cancelation. Did I use to? No. I used to believe that people should speak freely and that you put their personal stuff off-limits. You don't make them lose a job, lose a position, lose social acceptability because they say something that you despise, that you hate. I once believed in the free market of ideas, and that was the rule. You didn't punish people for speaking. But guess what? The rules changed.
