As the founder and president of Moms for America, I was not surprised to learn that the Department of Justice uncovered widespread fraud and deceit at the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC). For years, the SPLC labeled my organization a hate group. The recent revelations about their true motives and crimes are a vindication for Moms for America and many other groups of law-abiding Americans smeared by this fraudulent, progressive battering ram.

What kind of fraud has been going on at SPLC? The DOJ released a shocking indictment alleging that the SPLC used donor funds secretly to pay leaders of violent and racist organizations. The scheme, which allegedly went on for years, resulted in more than three million dollars going to legitimately hateful, racist groups.

Remember the Unite the Right Rally of 2017? The event in Charlotte, North Carolina, that erupted in violence has been used by the Left to discredit all conservatives and falsely claim racism in every political conversation. It turns out the SPLC, instead of standing up for truth and justice as they like to pretend, was allegedly bankrolling the event

As I told Fox and Friends, “[Moms for America is] a national organization of 500,000 moms across the country who are specifically focused on reclaiming our culture for truth, for family, for freedom and the Constitution. And for that they label us a hate group?” There is nothing extreme, violent, or objectionable about mothers who love God, love their families, and love our country.

Even with this blatant mislabeling of our group and countless other conservative organizations, the SPLC clung to its reputation as a long-standing civil rights organization. Until the current Trump Administration, our federal government continued working directly with the SPLC to gather intelligence about “extremist” groups. It was a victory for all Americans when Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Kash Patel cut ties with the SPLC last fall.

Patel rightly pointed out that SPLC is a “partisan smear machine.” In particular, he drew attention to the “hate map” put out by the group tracking “hate and anti-government” groups across the United States. Turning our citizens against their fellow Americans for ordinary patriotism and non-violent activism is unacceptable. Making maps of where to find them is even worse.

Sadly, the Trump Administration’s decision to cut ties with the SPLC came only after the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The year before his death, Kirk’s organization, Turning Point USA, was the case study in the “hard right” for the SPLC’s “The Year in Hate and Extremism 2024.” It was tragically clear that ideological groups like SPLC had put a target on the backs of law-abiding, non-violent Americans.

Risk of assassination is not the only consequence of landing on the SPLC “hate” list. At Moms for America, we have been deplatformed, denied service, debanked, and harassed. When we have asked for clarification, the reason always came back to the designation by a supposedly respectable, leading civil rights organization that Moms for America is a “hate group.” All the while, the SPLC was funding actual racists and extremists. I would love to know when Moms for America and organizations like ours will be allowed to use public platforms and get an apology from the businesses led astray.

If you have not been paying attention to how insane the radical, progressive Left has become, you might be surprised to learn that major news organizations are attempting to defend the SPLC. They claim that the DOJ’s investigation, which began under the Biden Administration, is unfair. The groups that benefit from the SPLC’s divisive and fraudulent work would have us believe that all the wire fraud and total lack of transparency were actually just an attempt to pay informants and save lives.

I don’t know about you, but I wasn’t born yesterday. The way to “fight” violent, racist organizations is not handing cold, hard cash to the very people who run them. Wasting the time and resources of law-abiding citizens by falsely labeling them “hate groups” does nothing to advance justice.

What is really going on? In a press conference on Wednesday, Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that the SPLC was“manufacturing racism to justify its existence.” The Left knows it is on the losing side. Desperate to maintain relevance and political sway, the George Soros-funded, Socialist elites have settled on “racism” as the catchall accusation to hurl at anyone conservative.

The stain of slavery on our nation is a terrible legacy. But it is also one that our country has courageously worked to overcome. There is no greater proof of this than one of the biggest “civil rights” groups sending paychecks to the few remaining actual racists in the country to try to justify calling conservatives “hate groups.”

I was not surprised to learn of widespread fraud at the SPLC. My only hope is that now more people’s eyes are opened and they stop sending money. One of the most powerful ways to advance peace and prosperity in our country is to effectively shut down the real hate groups. SPLC is first in line.
