One of the most disastrous pieces of legislation entered the mainstream political cycle when Senator James Lankford, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer proposed The Border Emergency Authority bill. Through this bill, which wrongfully claims to be ‘bipartisan,’ Lankford and others express that allocating funds and implementing security practices will help aide the border crisis by strengthening the ability to protect against illegal aliens coming across the border. The amount of fat on this bill, as well as the ambiguous language on turning those crossing the border away, is a dangerous precedent to set and solves nothing.

Dr. Rand Paul laid out the argument against the bill by leading GOP members of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, on which he serves as the Ranking Member, in sending a letter to Senate leadership urging against such a quick passage and conduction of procedure. Dr. Paul and other members stated in the letter that it would be wrong for sponsors and supporters of the bill to shove the bill to the floor, stating, "Rushing a bill to the Senate floor without allowing adequate time for the committees of jurisdiction to deliberate on the legislation and conduct hearings with individuals possessing relevant expertise would be a significant oversight."

Instead of working to secure the border, Lankford, McConnell, Schumer, and others were doing the complete opposite, using any opportunity to send foreign aid to other countries and use other avenues to waste taxpayer spending, all without adequately addressing the illegal immigration crisis here at home. After seeing the new bill's complete form, Dr. Paul tweeted his criticisms and problems concerning the legislation.

Dr. Paul blasted the proposed legislation, posting on X, "new border law ‘never closes’ the border, and, of course, the entire $118 billion will be borrowed. Nothing, absolutely nothing, conservative about this deal. This predictable revelation is only a week old, and yet the Swamp's new ‘border security’ bill gives Ukraine $60 billion more….from the squandering of your money to the fake border reforms, it's safe to declare this bill as anti-American. I'm a NO."

Not only is this “deal” not a solution to the crisis on our southern border, but it is not conservative at all. It is a way for the Biden administration not to fix their problem while claiming victory, for warmongering neoconservatives to proclaim a win by allocating billions of dollars to Ukraine yet again, and allowing Republican leadership to claim a victory for bipartisanship and declare they addressed a crisis.

Dr. Paul spoke up for all conservatives when he called the piece of legislation led by the warmongers and Democrats "anti-American." If there are any Republican thinkers or officeholders in the country who understand when legislation is going awry and off-course from policy it is supposed to address, it is Rand Paul.

The America-First movement needs leaders like the Kentucky Republican to fight back against the left and the neoconservative establishment, just as Dr. Paul did in his advocacy against The Border Emergency Authority bill.
