Nearly eleven weeks into Donald Trump’s second term, do you still have any Democrat friends? Those who devour what The New York Times or The Washington Post say about the world and the Administration? Those who tune into NPR whenever they drive? Slanted news about tariffs is the merely latest in a long, long line of pre-conceived biased coverage.
Why Look Elsewhere?
Democrats eagerly receive their daily fix via tainted information sources and are continually mislead as to what is occurring internationally and domestically. They have no need to look elsewhere because, in their minds, their long-time trusted news sources are all that anyone would need! They will not seek alternative sources on the news stories fed to them because, as they see it, there is simply no reason to so.
This is a long-term, sad development for the rest of the nation; ironically, some of these Democrats otherwise exhibit intelligence. Some have PhDs or are instructors, trainers, or high-salaried career professionals.
This phenomenon, which I call living behind “the information iron curtain” explains why left-leaning news organizations can skate by and present slanted articles for decades and in some cases, such as the Times, for more than a century. The New York Times and down-line media make their living via their captive audience. Their readers, constituents, and supporters will not take even a few seconds to corroborate the stories that their sources feed them.
Captives for Life
Ad infinitum, I've explained to liberal friends that they’ve been ensconced in the Leftist bubble for their entire lives and are never exposed to conservative views. How so? The Leftist media unfortunately dominates American discourse and most of the world's political discourse.
Conservatives, meanwhile, have no choice but to be exposed to Leftist views because such views are, inescapably, everywhere. While rank-and-file Democrats assume they have a firm grasp on issues, generally, they do not. Hence, the four-year Joe Biden “is sharp” ruse. Conservatives, who are virtually forced to be exposed to both sides of an issue, thus have a better understanding of events.
If you explain this duality to Leftists, they will deny it. They will say that Conservatives live in a bubble and dominate podcasts and radio. They'll offer all kinds of explanations rather than accept that they are a spoon-fed lot.
Course Correction
As a case in point, I attended an adult course on politics taught by a psychiatrist who claimed to be impartial. He explained how Elon Musk is a blight on society. I took exception to his view, pointing out, among other things, that Musk is a registered independent and voted for Biden in 2020. I told the instructor, “You probably didn’t know this.” The pained look on his face made it apparent that he did not know.
He retorted, “I'm only going based on behavior.” I felt like explaining why Musk now supports conservative views, but I didn’t. Wouldn't Musk’s conversion shed more light on public discourse and who influences whom?
Other liberals, such as law professor Alan Dershowitz, DNI Director Tulsi Gabbard, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., and law professor Jonathan Turley, have each denounced how the Left has applied lawfare against President Trump and the Trump administration, compromised the FBI, politicized the Department of Justice, and weaponized government in general.
Balanced Views Matter
Trump is no dictator. He was not a dictator in his first term and is not now. If Leftists were ever to gain a balanced view of what's occurring in America, they might understand that the Biden--Harris administration came the closest to dictatorial that we have yet experienced.
If contemporary Leftists ever truly understood the history of the Democratic Party, they would have deep reservations about their own origins. Or, maybe, despite the horrendous record, they would secretly approve.
The dilemma for those on the Right is how to break the still-pervasive Leftist stranglehold on the media. The Leftist media is adept at spreading propaganda and influence even after getting trounced on November 5. Their captive audiences won't listen to any arguments representing contrary views to Leftist rhetoric.
Such audience members instead will claim that you are a conspiracy theorist, deluded, or making up stories, and, worse, that you are a threat to democracy. Actually, the opposite is true. It is those on the Left, enslaved by the mainstream media for their whole lives, who are the greatest threat to democracy.
