This Thanksgiving, millions of Americans have one more reason to be grateful. Thanks to President Trump’s abundant energy policy, 73 million American motorists will save nearly $150 million in fuel costs traveling to see family and friends. Those savings are real and measurable when compared to the 2022 crisis-level prices caused by the disastrous energy policies of the Biden-Harris Administration.

President Trump’s swift reversal of Bidenomics has been a blessing for every family budget. By ending the war on American energy, Trump stopped the inflationary spiral that made wind and solar developers rich while leaving working families to pick up the tab. The misnamed Inflation Reduction Act was never about reducing inflation. It was a $1.2 trillion climate spending spree that funneled taxpayer dollars to politically connected non-profits, developers, and investors.

And had President Trump not won, the story would be far worse. Vice President Kamala Harris and her Democratic allies were preparing to double down on the Inflation Creation Act with new carbon taxes, fossil fuel elimination dressed up as ESG mandates, and other costly climate gimmicks.

Under such a plan, Americans would pay more at the pump, more to heat their homes, and more for every good and service transported by truck, train, or plane. The average family already feels the pain of Biden-era inflation, which increased food and electricity prices by 23.6 percent and 25.3 percent, respectively. Under a Harris plan, that pain would become permanent.

In 2024, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) floated the idea of raising the so-called social cost of carbon to as much as $190 per metric ton. The Trump Administration wisely eliminated this metric, recognizing it for what it was, a political weapon designed to justify higher taxes and new regulatory overreach. Harris and her progressive allies have made clear that they would reinstate and expand it.

DONALD TRUMP ENERGY

If adopted, a tax of $190 per metric ton would trigger a 30 percent spike in fuel prices and a 47 percent increase in electricity bills. A gallon of gasoline would instantly rise by roughly $1.80. That means the 73 million Americans driving to Thanksgiving dinner would spend nearly $300 million more at the pump this week alone. Over a full year, the average household would spend nearly $2,000 more on gasoline.

Electricity would not be spared either. Power generated by natural gas, the cleanest and most reliable energy source in the United States, would rise by $80 per megawatt-hour, or eight cents per kilowatt-hour. For a typical household using 1,000 kilowatt-hours per month, that is nearly $100 in added monthly costs. Nationally, this would total more than $120 billion every year.

That is the price of the climate alarmists’ agenda, and it is exactly what the Trump Administration has spared Americans from paying.

Under President Trump’s leadership, the United States has returned to an energy policy grounded in abundance, not scarcity. Production of oil and natural gas is setting records again, and coal is rebounding. Pipelines are being built instead of blocked. Federal leasing is open and predictable. Consumers are reaping the benefits of lower costs and greater reliability. Energy independence is no longer a slogan. It is a working policy that keeps prices affordable, jobs plentiful, and families secure.

Under President Trump, America is once again the world’s energy superpower. Gasoline is affordable, electricity is reliable, and American workers are back in the driver’s seat of prosperity.

So, as we gather around the table this Thanksgiving, we should remember the connection between energy and everything we enjoy. From the food we cook to the warmth in our homes to the family gathered under one roof, all of it depends on reliable and affordable energy. That is what President Trump has delivered: a policy rooted in reality, guided by prosperity, and committed to American strength.

The alternative would have been a cold and costly winter for working families. Instead, Americans can give thanks that common sense has returned to the White House. With the right leadership, the United States can continue to lead the world in affordable, reliable, and responsibly produced energy. That is something worth celebrating not just this Thanksgiving, but all year long.
