Character does not matter, at least in politics. People can do things that cause embarrassment or shame, or at least would have in the past, and it will not hinder their pathway to power. If Harvey Weinstein were out of prison, he could easily win another Oscar. If Jeffrey Epstein were alive, he would still be getting solicitations for meetings and donations from Democrats. The old joke about the only way a powerful politician could be taken out is if they were caught “with a live boy or a dead girl” has lost its punch, as those would likely be resumé enhancements today.

Neither of those options would surprise me about the Democrat Texas has chosen to run for the Senate, and nothing would surprise me about the one they picked to run for Senate from Maine. Both James Talarico in Texas and Graham Platner in Maine have done weird and/or awful things that would have disqualified them in the past, but have Democrats circling the wagons to support them today.

More than that, there was a time when people like those two (and far too many other Democrats to list here) would have left the public stage in shame because of their actions or never went out on it in the first place because of them.

But shame is dead. Personal responsibility is dead. Decency is dead. And Democrats are ready to take full advantage of it.

The argument leftists make is “Donald Trump!” They don’t really elaborate, or likely know what the word “elaborate” means; they simply say his name, and all leftists obey and agree like well-trained service dogs.

Was Donald Trump the world’s greatest husband? Obviously not. So what? Was he running for Pope? No, he was not.

But Democrats insisted on treating him like he was running for Pope. More hilariously, Democrats insisted Trump didn’t have the moral character to be President while running Hillary Clinton as their candidate.

I loved watching Democrats try to lose an argument they’d won when it suited their needs – Bill Clinton was a “private matter” that wasn’t a crime, no matter how big a violation of workplace power dynamics it was. Neither was anything Donald Trump is alleged to have done. And all the indiscretions were in the past, Bill was doing it in the White House, in the Oval Office, with an intern like a porno game of Clue.

Platner is alleged to have done horrible things, with other even more horrible things that have yet to come to light. Not in the distant past, but up until last year, which, if true, means they’re still ongoing, as being a scumbag is not a conscious choice; it is who you are and who you’ll be until you grow up. Growing up cannot be forced on you; it’s something you have to do on your own.

Platner won’t say what he did. He just uses his service as a shield and sword by blaming it on PTSD. But he was a d*******g before – an entitled rich kid getting into trouble that his family and their connections and money got him out of – he never enlisted. He is a man you don’t want to move into your neighborhood because you see in him the “add alcohol get instant a*****e” vibe you learn to avoid in college; ‘roid rage without the ‘roids.

Talarico is just creepy. He’s the guy in your neighborhood you look to when small dogs go missing. Except for the people in Jonestown, he may be the person who has misunderstood the Bible more than anyone else. While Platner was clearly a misogynist looking to screw any woman he could con into it with his claims of being “dark” and a rebel, James is the “male” side of the kissing porcelain statues they used to sell at Hallmark stores – hands behind his back, leaning over, and hoping but never really getting there.

It's odd that Democrats got so upset when Talarico was called a “trans” candidate, so perhaps he should be referred to as a “cis” candidate? Make a point of hammering that home because why not?

Democrats used to insist character didn’t matter under Bill Clinton, then it was the only thing that mattered when they started attacking Donald Trump (just not the character of anyone named Clinton). Now they’re back to it, not mattering at all. It’s not the best look when the guy advocating for fascism with a Nazi tattoo is the one your party identifies with, nor is it good when your chosen candidate can’t stop expressing their love of “trans kids” while you pretend Jeffrey Epstein wasn’t a dyed-in-the-wool Democrat.

The only conclusion that can be drawn about the way Democrat voters operate is that they will hitch their wagon to anyone, no matter how vile, creepy, scuzzy, or disgusting, if they think they can win. And any party that will try to win with people like that is, well, a party you have to do anything necessary to make sure they don’t get within a Rory McIlroy tee shot of power.
