There’s something to be said for rallying troops, and nothing rallies troops like a rousing speech. Also, nothing rallies troops like being behind – a coach of a team up by 21 points at halftime is going to have difficulty getting them fired up as the coach of a team down by seven at the same point – looming defeat and avoiding it are great motivators. In political fundraising, however, what Democrats seem to employ is a schizophrenic burst of celebration followed by defeatism. They really are the bipolar party.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee sent a fundraising email Wednesday with the subject line, “Our odds PLUMMETING.” (and yes, they wrote it that way.)

It opens with, “We’re SPEECHLESS. FIRST: Donald Trump was indicted for a SECOND time. THEN: On the SAME DAY he was charged, he hosted a swanky fundraiser for his far-right mega-donors -- and potentially raked in MILLIONS. NOW: Thanks to the GOP’s deep-pocketed mega-donors, Trump’s Republicans have the upper hand in the fight for control of the House. So we’re mobilizing grassroots Democrats nationwide to OUTRAISE Trump’s House Republicans and stop these far-right MAGA Republicans from EVER holding the Majority again. If 12,500 Democrats chip in before our midnight deadline, we can send Republicans a message they will NEVER forget. Will you rush in $3 right now to help elect House Democrats?”

So, Trump “raked in MILLIONS,” but Democrats only $37,500 to counter that? Democrats exist in a world where it’s best not only to not “overthink” things but not to think of things at all.

“With Trump capitalizing off of his latest indictment, House Republicans’ chances of holding onto power are already increasing,” it continues. “Democrats MUST rise to the occasion and step up to outraise them -- it’s the only way to flip the House blue in 2024.  We’re counting on grassroots supporters everywhere (including you, Derek) to help ensure Democrats take back the Majority and hand Donald Trump’s House Republican loyalists a STUNNING defeat. Will you rush in $3 right now?”

Of course, I didn’t. But I do admire the attempt to scare people through defeatism, even if their math is so wildly stupid as to make zero sense.

Still, it’s one hell of a motivating tactic: we’re screwed; give us money!

Hakeem Jeffries, Democrat leader in the House, employed the same tactic a couple of days later in his email, “Time’s short so that I won’t waste a second, Derek: I just learned that the twice-impeached ex-president hosted a lavish fundraiser -- where he collected $100,000 PER PERSON -- to help buy this election for extreme MAGA Republicans.” Curiously if this fundraiser for Trump is so important and dangerous, why did Jeffries only “find out” about it almost two weeks after it took place? Might he be lying?

“We can’t allow MAGA Republicans to buy their way into power ever again,” he whines. “I’m calling for 14,500 more DCCC gifts before my midnight deadline. Will you step up? I’m not asking for me. I’m asking for every family whose healthcare access Republicans tried to repeal. For every senior whose Medicare they attacked. For every American whose reproductive rights they undermined. I’m asking you to take a stand at this moment to help us OUT RAISE extreme MAGA Republicans and restore our Democratic House majority.”

He would never ask for himself; he just wants the money in a fund he controls… He never clarifies how raising $14,500 would counteract millions, but whatever.

Why would anyone donate to a sinking ship? Being out-raised and out-maneuvered at every turn is an argument for new leadership, not more money. But this is what they do – the highs are very high, and the lows are down to the core of the planet. At some point, don’t people recoil?

The answer is no; they don’t. Democrats are ready to believe the worst about the country, their fellow Americans, pretty much anything some leftist tells them is horrible. You have to really dislike this country to fall for that, and they really dislike the country, and you have to hate people who disagree with you, and they hate people who disagree with them.

Democrats are a bipolar party that you really have to wonder, if you think rationally about it, why any of them would bother trying to change a country they view as fundamentally flawed in an irredeemable way. Then you just have to remember that logic has no place in Democratic Party politics, that these people are just in it for themselves, and it all makes sense.
