Reporting on the Mirror – WASHINGTON POST

Ed Morrisey at HotAir brings up a good point: As the media have been borderline obsessed with tracking Elon Musk supposedly rendering Xitter, there is little at all to be heard about the waning prospects of one of the country's venerated newspapers, the Washington Post. We have covered how there have been repeated layoffs over the past couple of years, and we learned the paper was poised to have lost $100 million in 2023. That makes up 40% of what billionaire Jeff Bezos paid for the Post ten years ago.

Dylan Byers of Puck reports that he has been privy to some internal numbers from that paper, and it shows signs of severe hemorrhaging in a few ways. People have fled the Post online, as the site has lost over half of its readers – from just under 140 million in 2020, it closed out last year with under 60 million. Of those who visit, over 80% read just a solitary article over the course of a month, and only 1/500 convert to subscriptions.

This is the loss of credibility in the journalism sector typified by this lone outlet. As we cover here at RFTH on the regular, few in the industry appear eager to do something about the freefall.

Gilded Reframe – ASSOCIATED PRESS

The AP has been scorched online of late for its inflammatory headline about Claudine Gay stepping down as president of Harvard. The AP, rather than looking critically at Gay's record, chose to go with accusing of "a new conservative weapon – plagiarism." The headline has been softened now, but it still alludes to a conservative issue with enforcing plagiarism standards.

When asked by Fox News about the change, an AP spokesperson mentioned the original headline and content had not met its editorial standards. The question is how the piece made it onto its site and syndicate. Where were the editors if this was the case? There appears to be an issue with its publishing standards.

Democratic Custodial Services – NBC News

Well, at least it's covering the border crisis…sort of. NBC News details how Biden has been working with Mexico's leadership to see if it can help stem some of the people flowing across the southern border. The reason Biden is doing so has, according to the news outlet, little to do with enforcing our laws and preserving the sanctity of our republic. No, it has to do with November's looming assessment of things.

So, after millions have poured into this country since he took control, it is his polling numbers that have suddenly motivated Biden. The disconnect being ignored is that as he wants Mexico to step up on its side, Biden is suing our own states to stop them from enforcing border laws.

First Amendment Strike Force – TIKTOK

  • So it is cleavage and Winnie-the-Pooh that China opposes.

Considering all of the hate-filled content seen recently on TikTok, from pro-Palestinian antisemitism and the recent praise over Osama Bin Laden's writing, it is a tad baffling to see that the curvaceous golfer/influencer Paige Spiranic had her account throttled for showing a bit too much of her plunging chestline.

Blue-Anon – MSNBC

  • Was Capehart vying for an Emmy or a Golden Globe Award?

This is proof that for some media figures, the term shameless has no definition. Jonathan Capehart brought on media-hungry former Capitol Police officer Michael Fanone on the January 6 anniversary this weekend. (You forgot about it too, didn't you?)

Capehart literally broke down crying on the set over this event.

You have no doubt heard the cliche "Make matters worse," but it is rare to see it presented in such a bold fashion. Capehart responded to those mocking his weepy histrionics and essentially proved he was acting for the cameras as he proudly declared he would do it again.
