Obama’s Star Trek Budget – NOT

“These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise. It’s five year mission, to explore new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before”.

As the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has reported, the President’s budget, the first one in awhile, is a road map for “growth, opportunity and fiscal responsibility”. What the OMB fails to mention is that we have been down this road many times before.

“The budget invests in American innovation…..the development of clean energy alternatives”. Apparently Solyndra’s default on a 535 million dollar loan guaranteed by the Department of Energy wasn’t disastrous enough. We need to once again fuel all those wonderful clean energy alternatives.

“Building a 21st century infrastructure”. When asked during his first term about all the shovel ready jobs that failed to materialize, Barack and Joe (that’s the Vice President for many of you millennials) simply laughed and said “yeh, shovel ready, sure”. Even inter-city high speed passenger rails have come back on to the drawing boards. The millennials have shown their reluctance to drive, at least for now. Thus, mass transit, full speed ahead.

I knew it was just a matter of time before the FDR Initiative was invoked by BO. That means shooing away the pigeons from the statues in the parks. This time it’s called The National Parks Centennial Initiative. It will be “putting youths, returning veterans and other Americans to work restoring some of our greatest historical, cultural and national treasures.” In the ‘30’s it was the birds, in 2015 it will be removing gum and graffiti.

“Expanding educational opportunities” claims a high place in the President’s budget. Under the old system our teachers trained students to think and reason. Today we train them to compute and text. Success is measured by how good everyone feels. Not being competitive on the world’s stage, the 44th is encouraging “full day kindergarten policies” and voluntary regulators to make sure all are in compliance.

Today’s teachers’ ability to teach, is being impeded, according to Barack, by the lack of access to increased bandwidth. Reading, writing and arithmetic is being sacrificed so students can better “connect…to the digital age through broadband and wireless”. How did we ever have education enough to put a man on the moon without excessive bandwidth?

The reading of the OMB report makes one chuckle and cry all at the same time.

There is so much to discover in this report not the least of which is the definitive reason for the failures in Iraq and Afghanistan – not enough money spent according to the 44th. Therefore, let’s do it again but this time opening the purse ever wider.

How will we pay for all of this? – Presidents Truman, Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush and Obama all have said it again and again. “Better Government efficiencies routing out fraud and waste…closing all the tax loopholes” Yes! Yes! Yes!

“Boldly going where no man (President) has gone before”

NOT
