The “Christ is King” wars have re-emerged, and it started with a politician who dared to tell the Biblical truth of the matter.
US Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) stated the social media obvious: anti-Semites and anti-Zionists are using, or rather abusing, the phrase “Christ is King” as a provocation against Jews.
Here’s what Cruz said, word for word:
I'm really troubled by how the phrase "Christ is King" is being used. Look, I agree with the statement Christ is King, although it is being used online in a way that is meant to say, “Screw you, Jew!” It is being used in a context very directly to say “I hate Jews.” And that's almost an online code word: "Christ is King" is "I hate the Jew."
Notice that Senator Cruz did not say, “It is anti-Semitic to say ‘Christ is King.’” Cruz did not denounce or discourage Christians from declaring “Christ is King.” It is shameful how bad actors have begun twisting his words to sound anti-Christian and cowardly.
Regarding the misuse of our Lord and Savior’s name and title, let us consider some examples. Arthur Kwon Lee, an empty provocateur who had signed me up to receive his Substack without my permission, bragged on social media: “I start the day with ‘Christ is King.’ I end the day with, ‘F**k Israel.’”
Clearly, if Christ is your King, you're not spouting curses with abandon, and you don’t curse Israel:
“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.” (Psalm 122:6)
Regarding the foul language:
“Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” (Ephesians 4:29)
If Christ is king, it pays to watch what you say.
Christ Jesus Himself has not dispensed with Israel, for the record:
Recommended
“I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew.” (Romans 11:1-2)
But most importantly, if Christ is King, why not end the day with “Christ is still King”? He’s supposed to be the focus of our daily lives, is He not?
Let’s talk about Jake Shields, an MMA Champion and “far-right” far-wrong podcaster. When Jeremy Boering, formerly of the Daily Wire, called out this insipid habit from Jew haters to misuse the phrase “Christ is King” to bash Jews, Shields sidled up and did exactly that.
Shields is not a Christian, either, by his own admission. He not only misuses the phrase, but he also takes our Lord and Savior’s name in vain. If Christ is King, then start acting like it. If He is King, then you should worship Him as such. Believe in Him instead of hating on other people who don’t. Joey Salads, a conservative activist and podcaster, confronted Shields on his obsession with mixing the name of Jesus with curses and insults. Shield’s only defense: “Christ is King, and you are an [sic] f****t.”
Stay classy, there, Jake. Such a weak and beggarly response, too.
Let’s talk about repeat sex-deviant and wannabe machismo merchant Andrew Tate.
Yes, he wrote, “Christ is King.” He introduced the declaration with a reaffirmation that he is a Muslim, however. His very faith contradicts the assertion. He has no right to say it.
No matter the disregard that non-Christians have for the Christian faith, I find their disinterest or rejection of Christ far less offensive than the Islamic lie that “Muslims believe in Jesus.” At one time, I saw ads all over Los Angeles promoting Islam that included adherents saying, “I believe in Jesus, too!”
No, they don’t. And their false assertion is deeply offensive to me.
The Quran (falsely) teaches that Jesus did not die on the Cross. The Islamic religion then teaches that someone did in Jesus’ place, so that the world was falsely deceived to believe that Jesus was Crucified (Surah 4:157-158). Islam further claims—the greatest blasphemy—that Jesus is not God, but rather merely one of Allah’s slaves (Surah 19:30).
I cannot accept that perversity.
No, for Christians Christ Jesus is fully God, equal with God, yet made Himself of no reputation to die for us (Philippians 2:7). Let us also not forget that the Quran teaches that “Allah is the Deceiver of Deceivers.” (Surah 3:54)
One can more easily convert a heart that hates Jesus or does not believe in Him for anything than someone who falsely believes claims to believe in Jesus, when in fact he has fallen for a great error and a false Messiah.
Consider this interaction between Orange County groyper Ryan Sanchez in a forum with the now-deceased Charlie Kirk and Dennis Prager. This was an interesting encounter, but not the way Sanchez intended! First, he complains about conservatives not uniting with so-called nationalists like Jared Taylor or Nick Fuentes. Taylor is a white identitarian, a collectivist with some sloppy explanations (many based on falsehoods) regarding the seeming inferiority of non-white ethnic groups. Fuentes has reached a unique status for his Jew-hatred, and he has recently come out supporting Democrats taking over every lever of power in Washington. Who wants to unite with any of that?
Kirk’s response at the time was spot-on: “I don’t unite with Jew-haters.”
Trying to push away a charge of anti-Semitism, Sanchez followed up with his concerns, “I think the Jews have too much influence.”
I really appreciated Dennis Prager’s interjection: “Christ was a Jew.”
For the record, I would make one correction to Dennis Prager’s assertion and go further: Christ IS a Jew. He lives after the power of an endless life (Hebrews 7:16). He is the Root of Jesse (Isaiah 11:10), and He is the Son of David (Isaiah 9:6-7), the Great King of Israel. During His earthly ministry, Jesus confronted the religious leaders of the day with this divine quandary about Himself: How can the Messiah be both David’s Lord and Son?” (see Matthew 22: 43-46)
Prager’s retort brings up a stunning irony for all this Jew-hatred hidden under the phrase “Christ is King.” How do they deal with the fact that Christ the King is a Jew? Forget mere influence, buddy: A Jew is fully in charge (as far as Christians believe). Sanchez faced quite a problem there! So do all the other anti-Semites. They might as well expose their folly and shout, “A Jew is king, but I hate Jews.” Make it make sense!
All this Jew-hatred is not just evil and incoherent; it’s downright silly. If Christ is King, then what justification remains for these disturbed individuals to worry? If Christ holds everything together (Colossians 1:16), why worry about any group or nefarious plot to harm you?
If someone says “Christ is King,” but follows it up with “The Jews control everything,” or “I hate Israel, and they control our foreign policy,” I would calmly respond:
You say Christ is King. He is King of Kings, so stop diminishing Him. Furthermore, if He is king, you have nothing to worry about. Cast your cares on Him (1 Peter 5:6-7).
Christ is King. Spread the word!
