During yesterday's White House press briefing, press secretary Jay Carney assured reporters that President Obama is still spending the majority of his time focusing on his presidential duties, not campaigning.
"I still maintain that the president is still spending a vast preponderance of his time on his official duties. As is everyone who works here," White House press secretary Jay Carney said at Wednesday's briefing when asked if Obama is officially in campaign mode.
"There is a campaign of course and it is active doing the things that it does in preparation for the time when there is a general election for the other party and there is a debate to be had directly," he said.
Meanwhile, Obama will jump around to five different fundraisers today:
President Barack Obama is embarking on a concentrated one-day fundraising trip, with a stop in his hometown of Chicago and another in Atlanta for a big-draw event with film producer Tyler Perry and performer Cee Lo Green.
Obama has been increasing his fundraising pace in preparation for his showdown with a Republican presidential nominee.
Obama will attend two fundraisers in Chicago and three in Atlanta. In Atlanta, his campaign's African American Leadership Council is holding a gala at Perry's studio featuring Green's performance. General admission tickets are $500. VIP tickets range from $2,500 to $10,000. A dinner later at Perry's home will raise $35,800 per guest.
Not to mention, Obama has been to more than 100 fundraisers in his first term:
President Obama has just hosted his 100th fundraiser in less than a year, according to a count by the ever-vigilant Republican National Committee, which has tracked the phenomenon across multiple news reports. The committee has done all the math to reveal that if Mr. Obama spends an average of two hours at each event, that equals 200 hours — or “five work weeks”.
