FLASHBACK: Sen. Chris Murphy Called Bowe Bergdahl an 'American Hero'

Katie wrote earlier about how Bowe Bergdahl pleaded guilty on Monday to charges of desertion and misbehavior before the enemy. Bergdahl deserted his post in Afghanistan on June 30, 2009, and was captured shortly afterwards by the Taliban and held until May 31, 2014. He was released as part of a prisoner swap.

When Bergdahl was first released, the White House held a celebration in the Rose Garden with his parents. Not soon afterwards, rumors began swirling that the story was not entirely as it appeared. Namely, that he had voluntarily left his post.

Despite this, the left continued to push the "hero" narrative, with Susan Rice insisting that Bergdahl had "served honorably."

And then Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) had this gem of a tweet, which is still up as of this writing.

...yup. That "American hero" Bergdahl, who faces up to a life in prison when he's sentenced.

In Murphy's defense, the "hero" narrative was still very much in full swing at the time of the original tweet, but even as the story became clearer, he did not back down and continued to defend Bergdahl on Twitter. He even went so far as to blame Republicans for everything, tweeting a link that alleged that GOP strategists had interviewed "angry members" of Bergdahl's unit to smear his service.

He has not made any comment on Twitter about Bergdahl since June of 2014.
