High School Teacher's Profanity Laced Rant Against the Military Sparks Controversy

Townhall columnist and Daily Caller writer, Derek Hunter, reports that a high school teacher and California city councilman has been caught on video making degrading comments towards members of the military and students who choose to go into the armed forces. Specifically, the so-called “educator” calls members of the military “dumbsh*ts” and further attacks their intelligence.

Hunter reports that Gregory Salcido is a current member of the Pico Rivera City Council and a history teacher at El Rancho High School. Salcido went off on a tirade after a student wore a sweatshirt featuring the U.S.  Marines Corps. logo on his sweatshirt.

“Think about the people you know who are over there,” Salcido is heard saying to his class in a video recorded by one of his students. “Your freakin' stupid Uncle Louie or whatever. They're dumb sh*ts. They're not high-level bankers. They're not academic people. They're not intellectual people. They are the freaking’ lowest of our low. Not morally, I'm not saying they make bad moral judgements.”

According to KCAL9/CBS2, the student who recorded the video said he was very angry at his teacher’s remarks.  The student says he has members of his own family in the military.

Salcido posted on his Facebook, “I don’t think it’s wise for me to make any specific comments, but I want my friends, family and students to know we are fine and we respect the rights of free expression for all individuals,” in reference to the controversy sparked.

Pico Rivera Mayor Gustavo Camacho sent KCAL9/CBS2 a statement, saying, “The City of Pico Rivera was founded upon the principles, values and sacrifices of many of our veterans who when called upon by our nation served with great pride and honor.”
