China Has Been Shipping Wuhan Coronavirus Tests to Europe...And They Don't Work

AP Photo/Mary Altaffer

Remember, folks—this isn’t China’s fault. This pandemic isn’t their fault. It’s not their fault that communist government officials strong-armed their doctors from doing the right thing and reporting this illness. They ordered scientists to destroy samples of it in December. They allowed Chinese New Year to be celebrated in Wuhan, exposing legions of people to the disease. And by the time they wanted to quarantine, too late; five million people had already left the city. They knew they lied, and their incompetence has led to this pandemic. Now, you see China sending medical teams and supplies to Italy, which has been hit hard by the Wuhan virus as if this wipes away them fumbling the ball on this. And yet, the liberal media loves China, peddling their propaganda because ‘orange man…bad.’

And even still, China screws up. A good chunk of those Wuhan coronavirus tests they’ve doled out doesn’t work. In the Czech Republic, some 80 percent of the tests are worthless (via Taiwan Times):

A Czech news site on Monday (March 23) revealed that 80 percent of the much-touted traunch of Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) rapid test kits "donated" from China are faulty, forcing healthcare workers to rely on conventional laboratory tests.

On March 18, as is the case with many of its other quasi charitable acts, Chinese state-run mouthpieces used the verbs "supplied" and "delivered" to give the impression that the communist regime was donating 150,000 portable, rapid COVID-19 test kits to the Czech Republic. In fact, the central European nation's Health Ministry paid some 14 million crowns (US$546,000) for 100,000 test kits, while the country's Interior Ministry footed the bill for another 50,000, reported Expats.cz.

However, Czech news site iROZHLAS on Monday revealed that local healthcare workers have discovered that up to 80 percent of the Chinese kits give false results. During a crisis staff meeting held for the Moravian-Silesian Region by regional hygienist Pavla Svrcinova, the error rate for the test kits was found to be 80 percent, prompting officials to suggest they only be used for those persons who are nearing the end of their quarantine and never previously tested positive.

In Spain, they bought 640,000 testing kits. Want to guess the end of that story?

So, do we still think China can, like, help the rest of us with these stories (via Business Insider):

Studies on the tests done in Spain found that they have only 30% sensitivity, which means they only correctly identify 30% of people with the virus, sources told Spanish newspaper El País.

Those sources told the newspaper that the tests should have a sensitivity of more than 80%. The US Centers for Disease Control says that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires rapid tests for influenza to have 80% sensitivity.

These studies prompted the Spanish Society of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology to formally recommend that these tests are not used, El País reported. Health workers are now instead meant to use other tests that take longer to give a result.

Fernando Simón, the director Spain's Center for Health Alerts and Emergencies, said on Thursday that Spain checked 9,000 of the tests, found their results were not good enough, and decided to return them.

Yeah, please return to sender.
