This month, Townhall covered how the Texas Senate passed a bill that would create a state department mimicking the federal Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Last month, Townhall covered how one Republican state lawmaker in Illinois proposed a new department for his state similar to DOGE.
This week, one poll showed that voters in one state are open to creating this type of agency for their state.
A poll released by MRG this week found that the majority of Michigan voters would like to see a state-based agency dedicated to government efficiency.
Despite this, 55 percent of respondents in the poll have unfavorable views of Musk and DOGE.
“Results show voters like the idea of streamlining government, even if they disapprove of the specific federal approach,” MRG President Jenell Leonard said in a statement on the poll’s findings.
"The reaction to the federal DOGE initiative under Elon Musk is deeply fractured along party lines," he added. "While Republicans strongly approve, the near-total disapproval among Democrats drives the overall negative numbers, indicating very little middle ground on Musk's approach."
The poll, conducted March 24 through March 28, found that only 29 percent of respondents oppose the creation of a Michigan DOGE (via MRG):
Demographic differences influence views on a state efficiency department. Notably, union households show moderate support at 51%, compared to 34% opposition. Non-union households express similar levels of support at 54%, with 28% opposing. Support also varies significantly by age, peaking among voters aged 50-64 (61% approving) and dropping among those 65 and older (41% support). A gender difference is also apparent, with men (61%) considerably more likely than women (46%) to back the proposal. Geographically, support is strongest in the Saginaw/Flint/Bay City region (62%) and West Michigan (60%), while voters in the Detroit Metro area show the lowest level of support at 48%.
Townhall previously reported how polling done by Fox News found that 40 percent of voters approve of DOGE’s cuts, while 58 percent disapprove.
Broken down by political party, among Democrats, 6 percent approve of the work Elon Musk is doing with DOGE and 93 percent disapprove, while 78 percent of Republicans approve and 20 percent disapprove. Seventy percent of Independents disapprove of the work Musk is doing with DOGE.
