A New Poll Shows How Americans Feel About Walz As Harris’ Running Mate

On Tuesday, Vice President Kamala Harris announced that radical left-wing Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota would be her running mate in the 2024 presidential election.

As Townhall covered, Walz supports abortion up til birth, transgender surgeries for children, socialism, among other radical left-wing ideas. However, one new poll published Tuesday asked respondents if they were familiar with Walz and his record, to which most respondents said that they did not know enough about Walz to form an opinion on him.

Another poll released Wednesday found that voters are split about Walz as Harris’ running mate.

In the poll, 35 percent of voters said Walz is either a good pick or the best possible pick Harris could have made, while just 16 percent say it was a bad pick or the worst possible pick. Another 35 percent aren't sure.

The YouGov poll found that 45 percent of voters do not know enough about Walz to form an opinion on him (via YouGov):

Overall, 45% don't know enough about Walz to say if they have a favorable or unfavorable opinion about him. 35% have a very or somewhat favorable opinion about him, while 20% have a very or somewhat unfavorable opinion. 62% of Democrats have a positive opinion of Walz, compared to 5% with a negative opinion and 33% who don't know.

In a YouGov poll conducted in late July prior to Walz being announced as Harris' running mate, 70% of registered voters had no opinion about Walz. A different poll taken in the hours after his selection as Harris' running mate found far fewer — 45% — with no opinion.

YouGov noted that Walz rose in popularity after being added to Harris’ ticket, just like Trump’s running mate, J.D. Vance, saw an uptick in popularity after he joined the ticket (via YouGov):

Walz's net favorability — that is the share of votes who view him favorably minus the share who view him unfavorably — increased 14 points after he was announced as Harris' nominee, from +1 to +15. Vance's net favorability increased 10 points after he was announced as Trump's nominee, from -10 to +1.

In an interview on Tuesday, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi claimed that Walz, who is a radical leftist is “right down the middle.”

As Townhall covered, Pelosi made the remarks on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” program.

“Tim Walz is wonderful. She [Harris] had many good choices among the six and certainly among the two. I’m a big fan of Gov. Shapiro. Tim Walz I know very well…to characterize him as left is so unreal. It’s just not what…He’s right down the middle. He’s a heartland of America Democrat,” Pelosi claimed.
