DHS Turns Up the Heat on Illegal Immigrants With Deportation Orders

On Day One, the Trump administration ended a mobile app the Biden administration had used that allowed undocumented aliens to make appointments at the border. Through this app, the former president let more than 900,000 noncitizens enter the U.S. Those who had appointments literally wept upon learning they were canceled. But the tears are sure to keep flowing, as the Department of Homeland Security is now terminating parole protections for those who used the CBP One app to enter the country. The administration urged those affected to self-deport through the app, which has since become CBP Home. But that’s not all. The administration is also warning illegal immigrants subject to a deportation order that they have to use the app to self-deport and leave the U.S. or be fined a hefty sum each day they remain.

"Illegal aliens should use the CBP Home app to self-deport and leave the country now. If they don’t, they will face the consequences," DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told Fox News. "This includes a fine of $998 per day for every day that the illegal alien overstayed their final deportation order."

Using a 1996 law that was not enforced until President Donald Trump’s first term in 2018, the administration plans to apply the penalties retroactively to illegal immigrants for up to five years, resulting in fines of more than $1 million, an administration official told Reuters, who was first to report on the fines.

The administration could also seize property from illegal immigrants who fail to pay the stiff penalty, the report noted. (Fox News)

Illegal immigrants are reminded through a flyer that if they self-deport they can choose their departure time, may keep money earned in the U.S., and retain their eligibility for future legal immigration.

Those who do not self-deport could face "consequences," such as being "apprehended by DHS with no opportunity to get your affairs in order beforehand," face the fines McLaughlin mentioned, including steeper ones for those who fail to self-deport after claiming they will, prohibition from reentering the U.S. legally, and potential jail time.
