Reynolds faced a tight race against Hubbell. The race was Iowa’s most expensive gubernatorial race ever.

Abortion was a prominent issue on the campaign trail, Reynolds signed a bill banning abortion after the detection of a fetal heartbeat. In contrast, Hubbell is a former Planned Parenthood board member who has promised to restore state funding to Planned Parenthood.

First daughter Ivanka Trump campaigned for Reynolds this past week and former Vice President Joe Biden campaigned for Hubbell the week before.
