U.S. Border Patrol agents stationed in the Tucson Sector arrested a previously deported child sex offender and multi-felon last weekend. Gustavo Gonzalez-Rodriguez, a Mexican national, has committed multiple felonies across the United States.

"Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents assigned to the State Route 83 immigration checkpoint near Sonoita apprehended a Mexican national illegally present in the United States Sunday afternoon. After arrest, record checks revealed 38-year-old Gustavo Gonzalez-Rodriguez was convicted by a California court in 2001 for lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14. He was subsequently required to register as a sex offender," U.S Customs and Border Protection released in a statement. "Gonzalez has an extensive criminal history that includes a 2016 felony conviction in South Carolina for assault and battery. He was sentenced to 10-years imprisonment for that crime. A previously deported aggravated felon, Gonzalez will face federal prosecution for immigration violations."

Over in the El Centro Sector last week, Border Patrol agents arrested two previously deported sex offenders. Here are the details:

The first incident occurred at around 4:35 a.m., when agents assigned to the Calexico Station encountered a man suspected of illegally entering the United States approximately three miles east of the Calexico Downtown Port of Entry.  Agents arrested the man and transported him to the El Centro Station for immigration and criminal history screening. Agents conducted records checks, which revealed that the man was identified as Zeus Calderon, a 38-year-old Mexican national, who was convicted of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 years of age out of Los Angeles.  Calderon was sentenced to 3 years prison.

Calderon was removed from the United States in 2009 as an aggravated felon.

The second incident also occurred on around 6:30 a.m., when agents assigned to the Calexico Station encountered a man suspected of illegally entering the United States approximately 25 miles east of the Calexico Downtown Port of Entry.  Agents arrested the man and transported him to the El Centro Station for immigration and criminal history screening.

Agents conducted records checks, which identified the man as Hector Lucas-Aquino, a 40-year-old Mexican national.  Lucas’s record checks also revealed that he was convicted on December 16, 2006 of sexual abuse in Wilsonville, OR.  Lucas received 75 months in prison for his crimes.

Lucas was also previously removed from the United States March 26, 2019.

Both Lucas and Calderon are being held in federal custody pending further criminal prosecution.

In fiscal year 2020, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents have arrested and removed 15 individuals either convicted or wanted on sexual assault charges after they entered the United States illegally.

Meanwhile, Border Patrol Chief Carla Provost gave an update earlier this week on the progress of the border wall.
