Paul Ryan: Trump Made The Right Call on Flynn Resignation

Speaking to reporters on Capitol Hill Tuesday, House Speaker Paul Ryan backed up President Trump's decision to accept the resignation of National Security Advisor General Michael Flynn.

"You cannot have a national security advisor misleading the vice president and others. So, I think the President was right in asking for [Flynn's] resignation," Ryan said.

Flynn issued his resignation late Monday night, acknowledging he misled Vice President Mike Pence about the content of a December phone call with the Russian Ambassador.

"Unfortunately, because of the fast pace of events, I inadvertently briefed the Vice President Elect and others with incomplete information regarding my phone calls with the Russian Ambassador. I have sincerely apologized to the President and the Vice President, and they have accepted my apology," Flynn wrote. "I am tendering my resignation, honored to have served our nation and the American people in such a distinguished way."

Flynn has been replaced by Retired Lt. General Joseph Keith Kellogg, Jr., who will serve as Acting National Security Advisor.
