Only 15 Democrats still believe in capitalism, law and order, fiscal responsibility, the real-world effects of government policy, genuine free speech, and pride in our nation.

Fifteen Democrats, including members of the House and current candidates, are openly rejecting the progressive wing of the Democratic Party and urging moderates to push back against the extremism emerging from New York and spreading across the country.

The pledge lays out a clear governing philosophy for the Democrat party, and one not likely to win this wing of the left any popularity contests.

It rejects socialism and embraces a growing, competitive capitalist economy that rewards hard work, innovation, entrepreneurship, and ownership. It argues that full-time work should make it possible to afford a home, raise a family, pay for healthcare, and retire with dignity, while tax and economic policy should expand opportunity and lower costs rather than protect those already at the top. It calls for safety, secure borders, and an orderly immigration system, along with a strong American role in global leadership. It emphasizes fiscal responsibility, insisting that government should live within its means and stop passing debt to future generations. And it reaffirms these Democrats' belief that America is a country of exceptionalism, and one who has and continues to live up to her promises.

"We believe America’s story is one of extraordinary achievement and unfinished work," the pledge reads. "We honor America’s strengths and exceptional character while striving to build a freer, stronger, more prosperous, and more perfect union."

So far, the 15 Democrats who have signed the pledge include Reps. Adam Gray (CA-13), Tom Suozzi (NY-03), Laura Gillen (NY-04), Don Davis (NC-01), Kristen McDonald Rivet (MI-08), Josh Gottheimer (NJ-05), Maggie Goodlander (NH-02), Janelle Bynum (OR-05), Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34), and Susie Lee (NV-03). The Democratic candidates include Jamie Ager (NC-11), Jessica Killin (CO-05), Bobby Pulido (TX-15), Marlene Galan Woods (AZ-01), and Paul Barringer (NC-13).

It remains unclear whether more Democrats will sign the pledge or whether it will gain any real traction, though most Democrats seem content to defer to the progressive wing of their party.

One thing is clear: the pledge is almost certain to become a target list for the Democratic Socialists of America.
