Anthony Weiner Reports to Prison

Former Democratic rising star Anthony Weiner reported to prison on Monday to begin serving a 21-month sentence for sexting a 15-year-old girl. Weiner will be imprisoned at Federal Medical Center in Devens, Massachusetts, which is a specialized facility for inmates that need mental health care, including sex offenders. Following his eventual release from prison, Weiner will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Weiner had to report to the facility by 2 p.m. today.

Prior to resigning from Congress in 2011 after accidentally tweeting out a picture of his private parts, Weiner was considered to be one of the Democratic Party's bright lights. In 2013, he attempted to mount a political comeback during the NYC mayoral election, but a second round of sexting allegations effectively derailed his bid. Showing that he was a remarkably slow learner, yet another sexting mistress surfaced in August of 2016, which prompted children's services to investigate the Weiner household out of concern for his young son.

About a month later, the underage teenager whom Weiner sexted and Skyped came forward to share her story. The two had exchanged thousands of messages, despite Weiner being well aware that the girl was under the age of consent. This resulted in the charges filed against Weiner. He eventually pleaded guilty in May of 2017 and was sentenced in September.
