If there's one thing the Left understands, it's the power of language. They know that "he who controls the language controls the world," and they've mastered the art of Orwellian speak.
Over the last year, the Left has made a push to redefine the meaning of the word "abortion" in the hopes of obfuscating what abortion really is -- the deliberate termination of a pregnancy, resulting in the removal or expulsion of the fetus or embryo from the uterus before it can survive outside the womb -- by equating it to other medical procedures. TikTok opthamologist Vicki Chan repeatedly lies to her followers, telling them that any procedure that ends a pregnancy is an abortion, which is why a woman in her comments believes her C-section was an abortion that "saves [her] babies." It seems extremely unwise to take any pregnancy-related advice from a doctor who specializes in eyeballs, but no one ever accused Leftists of being smart.
It didn't stop there, however. During one of his many TPUSA events, the late Charlie Kirk calmly educated a screeching woman who insisted that any procedure involving the uterus was an "abortion," including the removal of a uterine or ovarian cyst.
The purpose, of course, is to cast a wide net to "normalize" abortion. After all, if a C-section is an "abortion" or the removal of uterine cysts is an "abortion," then millions more women have had multiple abortions.
Now it appears the Left is doing the same thing with "gender-affirming care."
Rep. Sara Jacobs (D-CA) attempted to classify cosmetic procedures like Botox or breast augmentation as "gender affirming care."

Much like the Left's attempt to expand the definition of abortion, they are now pushing to normalize "gender-affirming care" as something almost everyone does. According to Healthline, about 2.5 million people received Botox in 2022, and 94% of them were women. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) said about 300,000 breast augmentation procedures are done annually. All told, there were about 1.6 million surgical cosmetic procedures and 28.5 million minimally invasive cosmetic procedures performed in 2024.
That's a lot of "gender-affirming care," isn't it?
"Gender-affirming care" is not Botox. It's not "breast augmentation" either, unless you classify removing the breasts from healthy girls because they "identify" as boys as "augmentation." Rather, "Gender-affirming care" is radical conversion therapy, one that gives gender confused boys and girls (who are often autistic, traumatized, depressed, or gay/lesbian) dangerous puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones, mutilates their bodies, and renders them sterile (and often sexually dysfunctional). It also does nothing to decrease suicidality, a form of emotional blackmail the Left used to browbeat some parents into "affirming" their child's gender ("do you want a living daughter or a dead son?") and as a political talking point to shame Republicans who opposed such barbarism against our children. ACLU attorney Chase Strangio was forced to admit that the "'gender-affirming care' stops suicide" lie during oral arguments before the Supreme Court.
We all know that's the reality. So does Rep. Jacobs, and no amount of Orwellian doublespeak will change it.
