Friday Fun: Kid Calls Cops To Warn Them About The Grinch Stealing Christmas

Well, here’s a nice apolitical story out of Bryam, Mississippi, which is just outside of Jackson. A five-year-old boy, TyLon Pittman, was so worried that the Grinch might steal Christmas that he actually called the police. Pittman had been watching YouTube videos of “How The Grinch Stole Christmas,” which prompted the little guy to call 9-1-1. His father immediately intervened, but to everyone’s surprise, the police actually did show up to assure the TyLon that the Grinch wouldn’t steal Christmas. This incident occurred on December 17 (via WaPo):

“I just want to tell you something. Watch for that little Grinch. Because the Grinch is gonna steal Christmas, okay?” TyLon said on the 911 call, which was posted on the Clarion-Ledger website.

The 911 dispatcher asked the child if he was home alone. His father quickly came to the phone and apologized for his son’s call to the police in Byram, Miss.

“No, no it’s fine,” the 911 dispatcher said with a laugh. “He called in saying the Grinch was trying to steal his Christmas.”

TyLon’s brother and mother were out shopping when it happened, and learned about it two hours later when there was a knock on the door about 9 p.m. Saturday.

TyLon’s brother, TeDera Graves, a senior airman in the Air Force, answered the door and saw a police officer standing there.

“I cracked the door and saw the uniform and she explained to me, ‘I’m looking for a little boy who was watching the Grinch?’ ” said Graves, 25. “We called him out and he explained to her what happened.”

The Post added on Monday that the police actually gave TyLon a tour of the police station. He also got the chance to lock up the Grinch as well. The responding officer, Lauren Develle, also accompanied TyLon. DeVelle told The Clarion Ledger, “Our dispatcher posted a status on Facebook that she had received a call from a little boy and he told her he thought the Grinch was going to be coming to steal his Christmas. I asked her to send me his address.” Officer Develle is also a fan of How The Grinch Stole Christmas, adding that her dad wears Grinch pants every Christmas morning. The 9-1-1 emergency call is also quite entertaining. TyLon is heard saying that he wants to become a police officer when he grows up. His dad is heard in the background saying he needs to stop watching so many cartoons, and that the Grinch won’t steal their Christmas.
