Good News: Scalise Is Getting Better

Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) continues to get better, according to MedStar Washington Hospital Center. The staff upgraded his condition to “fair” Wednesday, after previously listing him in "critical" and "serious" condition.

Last week’s shooting at a GOP baseball practice, which injured five people, united Capitol Hill at least for a few days. Both Democrats and Republicans prayed for their colleagues on the field before Thursday’s big game. House and Senate leadership even sported LSU gear in support of Scalise’s alma mater. In another touching moment, one of the Capitol Police officers who had been injured in the attack, Agent David Baily, limped onto the field in crutches to throw out the first pitch. The applause was deafening.

There were plenty more memorable moments where those came from. Better yet, the game ended up raising a record-setting $1.5 million for charity.

In addition to Scalise and Agent Bailey, lobbyist Matt Mika, Agent Crystal Griner and congressional staffer Zach Barth were all injured in the baseball attack.

Here's hoping they all stay #ScaliseStrong.

The FBI announced Wednesday that the shooter, James T. Hodgkinson, acted alone and the incident is not being treated as a terrorist incident. Disturbingly, the attacker had a list of Republican members of Congress he intended to kill in on his person. He had also Google searched "2017 Republican Convention" before the attack.
