Republican Reps Try to Force Vote on Impeachment of IRS Commissioner

Don't worry, Republicans in Congress haven't forgotten about the IRS' targeting of conservatives. On Tuesday, Reps. John Fleming (R-LA) and Tim Huelskamp (R-KS) filed a privileged resolution to force a vote on the impeachment of IRS Commissioner John Koskinen.

In 2013, we learned that the agency made it unnecessarily difficult for conservative groups to gain tax exempt status. Koskinen was not in charge of the IRS during this conservative witch hunt, yet he has failed to cooperate with Congress in its investigation.

“For years the IRS has abused its power to target people based on their political views. Commissioner John Koskinen not only did nothing about it, but continued the trend of deception by deliberately keeping Congress and the American people in the dark,” Fleming said in a statement Tuesday. “To date no one has been held accountable and no one will unless we move forward with a resolution to require a vote on his impeachment.”

Conservative groups have thanked the congressmen for their efforts to demand accountability.

“Tea Party Patriots is extremely grateful that Rep. John Fleming (R-LA) and Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-KS) have filed a privileged resolution to force a vote on impeaching IRS Commissioner John Koskinen for lying under oath and obstructing investigation into the IRS targeting of conservatives for their political beliefs," CEO and Co-Founder Jenny Beth Martin said in a statement on Tuesday. "As one of the groups targeted by the IRS, Tea Party Patriots and our supporters and activists across the country have been deeply impacted by the misuse of government power."
