As a parent, I can tell you that the little day-to-day expenses add up. Even when you budget, prices go up or your son blows out the knee of his school uniform pants, or the car needs new tires. Even $5 and $10 expenses can quickly get costly. The same thing applies to taxes.
The Left loves to say that you're only paying another $6 or $7 on your phone bill so that "poor people" can have phone access. Here in Wisconsin, the Public Service Commission just increased our utility rates again. The exact number wasn't verifiable when I wrote this Friday morning (surprise, surprise), but a 15 percent rate hike was requested. That's another $35 a month for this writer.
So when Democrats want you to "chip in" $6 for every new social program, then propose 20 new programs, that's $120 out of your pocket.
If you had to pay an extra $6 out of every paycheck, but it meant every kid in public school got free breakfast and lunch, no matter how much their parents make, would you do it?

My children are my responsibility. And by allowing the government to feed them, we're giving more control over our children to the government.
You people have been saying this kind of thing for a hundred years. You are now taking forty percent of everything I make every year.

This guy is paying almost half of his income to support people who contribute nothing to society. And the government will tell him he's still not doing enough.
"I just need 6 more dollars. Just 6 bucks. That's all I'm asking for"

"Just another $5."
Until you're broke. Because when you're giving out $1 to people, and 100 people put their hands out, that's $100. Now extrapolate that across millions of people and you see how it grows, exponentially.
Which, of course, is the ultimate goal of the socialists. They want us all to be dependent on them for housing, food, and healthcare. They want us to be equally poor, miserable, and oppressed while the party apparatchiks and their buddies live in mansions, take fancy trips, and eat decent food. That's always the end game of socialism: a two-class society where they lord over us.
And, as always, the burden falls on the working and middle classes. This post popped up in my timeline, a flashback to 2022 when Stephen Colbert was fine with paying high gas prices to help out his buddy Joe Biden.
.@StephenAtHome: "Today, the average gas price in America hit an all-time record high of over $4/gallon. OK, that stings, but a clean conscience is worth a buck or two. It’s important. I’m willing to pay $4/gallon. Hell, I’ll pay $15 a gallon b/c I drive a Tesla" pic.twitter.com/my8Ukya5rQ

Americans rejected that in 2024, and they rejected the notion of paying higher gas prices for Iran this week.
So it's clear that we're getting fed up with it. If this election was about affordability, Democrats are going to take all the wrong lessons. When Americans want affordability, it means we want to keep more of our own money. We do not want to have the government take hundreds of dollars out of our checks to redistribute it so kids can have "free" lunches or we can pay for our neighbor's rent.
