The socialist Left has long targeted the nuclear family for destruction. They hate it for a variety of reasons: because they have deep-seated mommy or daddy issues, because they're anti-social loons who can't form healthy relationships, because they're miserable and want everyone else to be, too. But the main reason the Left hates the nuclear family is because it's the main obstacle to their socialist goals. Nuclear families often are working class or middle class and do not need to rely on the government for aid.
To the socialist, that's intolerable and unacceptable. They need a world with two classes — the very rich (comprised of them and their political allies), and the extremely poor (the rest of us) — in order to enact, enforce, and maintain their socialist agenda. History has already shown us that the socialists pit family members against one another; children and parents routinely ratted one another out in Mao's China, for example.
What socialists cannot do is come out and propose legislation that makes the nuclear family structure illegal. It would be electoral suicide, and they know it. So what they do instead is chip away at the foundations.
What Mao did, and indoctrinated his supporters into doing, is echoed today in the Left's push to criticize, condemn, and ostracize your conservative family members. They tell you to cut off those relationships, skip Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas visits, and isolate yourself.
They also target children. Using the "trans" activism as a guide, they encourage children (who are often abused, or autistic, or gay/lesbian) to hide their "trans identity" from their parents and encourage a "chosen" family instead. That's a theme that pops up frequently in television and movies, too, the "chosen family."
Another way they do this is by allowing legal recognition of relationships of more than two people. One California city is doing that now, offering legal recognition to "throuples" and foursomes. It doesn't provide the same rights as married couples or traditional domestic partners.
Yet.
California city makes history allowing throuples, foursomes to legally register as partners https://t.co/Eg2YxF6oEQ pic.twitter.com/PRAYPfge4K

Throuples, foursomes and other multi-partner relationships can now register as domestic partners in a Los Angeles County city after its city council unanimously approved new legal protections for polyamorous couples.
West Hollywood passed the ordinance Tuesday after it was introduced by Mayor John Heilman.
The measure allows people in relationships involving multiple partners to officially register with the city, granting them certain rights, including hospital visitation and additional tenant protections.
However, the law has its limitations, as it does not provide the same legal rights afforded to married couples or traditional domestic partners.
Chip, chip, chip.
Legal recognition and protection will be next. Because it's "discrimination" not to.
I’m old enough to remember talk of a slippery slope around legalizing gay marriage. Those people were roundly mocked and ridiculed. And yet, here we are. Anyone who thinks this is a win for society (and especially for children) is crazy.

They don't think this is a win. They think this is the next necessary step in destroying the family. Rendering it meaningless is just as effective a way to outlaw it as actually passing legislation, but without the legal and political blowback.
Every critic of gay marriage said this was the logical outcome; virtually every mainstream proponent of gay marriage assured us it would never happen.

And here we are. https://t.co/X5YxDhPZ1I
And, as always, the consequences of this won't just impact the family and society, it will harm the Left's agenda, too. USA Today reported back in June that support for gay marriage is on the decline. That's in part because the critics of gay marriage warned that it would lead to a slippery slope that has seen the push for transgender ideology and even an acceptance of "minor attracted individuals." Whether you agree with them or not, public perception is tying one to the other and responding with declining support.
