Jon Huntsman describes himself as a “governor, a businessman and a diplomat” and says that American needs “more than hope” as he enters on Tuesday a crowded field of Republicans seeking the presidency.

In excerpts released by his campaign, the former Republican governor from Utah declares that it would be “totally unacceptable and totally un-American” for the nation to pass on a less successful country to the next generation.

“It need not, must not, will not be our permanent condition,” Mr. Huntsman will say as he makes his campaign official at a New Jersey park in the shadow of the Statue of Liberty. “We will not be the first American generation that lets down the next generation.”
