The Deconstruction of the Democrat Lie

Lying doesn’t seem to mean the same thing that it did when I was growing up.  As a kid, I was taught to always tell the truth or there would be hell to pay.   All of the kids I grew up with were told the story of George Washington chopping down the cherry tree and his famous words, “I cannot tell a lie.”

What happened?  When did lying become second nature without a single tinge of guilt attached?  It struck me this week that there is no distinction between lies and truths anymore. I’ve seen it coming for years, but this week it really hit me hard.  It is especially apparent with the Democrat party and this current administration. Sorry, but THAT is the truth.

With the decision by the Supreme Court that Obamacare is a tax, we can see that this whole thing was a lie and a fraud from the get-go.  When this bill was first introduced it was deceptive.  Lies were told to “on the fence” Congressmen like pro-life Rep. Bart Stupak of Michigan who held off on his vote because of the abortion language in the bill. That is, until Obama signed an executive order to placate him.

It was an out and out lie, and he fell for it.  It continued with more lies to Nebraska Senator Bill Nelson, and Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu.  Back room deals and promises were given to insure a victory for Obamacare.  Lies, handshakes, winks and nods.

Is that what we have become in this country? The only truthful thing that was said was when Nancy Pelosi famously stated that “We have to pass the bill for you to find out what is in it.” That was a straight out warning to all of us that something was not right, we were being deceived and despite the loud voices on the right screaming it was a lie, many just went along with it!

Obama continued the lies to try to sell this monstrosity.  How many times did he stand up in front of his teleprompter and tell the American people that they could keep their doctors and their insurance if they liked it?  How many times did he say that this would reduce the cost of healthcare and benefit everyone? More lies, over and over again.

Time and time again, during debates, the question came up as to whether this bill was a tax or not.  No, no, a thousand times no we were told.  It is NOT a tax.  The whole argument that it was constitutional was based on the commerce clause.  The tax issue was constantly being denied.

When George Stephanopoulos questioned Obama about the tax issue, he flat out lied to the American people again.   His smug attitude when he chastised Stephanopoulos for questioning him was damning. That lie was just as blatant as the one that Bill Clinton told while shaking his finger at the American people:  “I did not have sexual relations with that woman….”

After the bill was passed and the states started to file lawsuits deeming it unconstitutional, the arguments in favor of Obamacare were still based on the commerce clause.  It wasn’t until the Supreme Court arguments that the lawyers for the law started bringing in the tax issue.  This whole thing has been a fraud and a lie from the very beginning and now, because a Supreme Court Justice decides that the law is constitutional by rewriting it to make it a tax boggles the mind!

Democrats and Republicans have always played fast and loose with the truth.  It just seems like today the Democrats are really ramping it up. They seem to think it is acceptable and no one has any guilt or remorse about it.  Take the recent case of Elizabeth Warren and her lies about her Indian heritage.  What did she think?  No one was going to check?  Then there is Eric Holder with the “Fast and Furious” cover-up. Like Sergeant Schultz from “Hogan’s Heroes”, he knew nothing about this whole ordeal.  He continues to say that this whole fiasco started in the Bush administration which is a lie.  He even had to recant part of his testimony to Darrell Issa’s committee when he said that Mukasey, Bush’s Attorney General knew about it.  He lied to the committee as if it were no big deal.

Something else that really disturbs me and was overshadowed due to the Obamacare decision is the overturning of the Stolen Valor Act.  Now, according to the Supreme Court, it isn’t a crime to lie about military service.  You can go out and claim that you are a Medal of Honor recipient and no one can call you out on it.  How is this possible?  How demeaning is this to military heroes who risked their lives for this country when anyone can take credit for it!

If George Washington could come back and see our country today, I am sure he would be appalled at where we are.  I wonder if they even teach the story of the cherry tree in school anymore.  Probably not.

Maybe I am idealistic, but I want to live in a country where honesty and integrity rule the day.  I want to believe my leaders are telling the truth when they stand up before me and talk about issues that will affect my life, my children and my future. No wonder the American people look askance at everyone in Washington.  No wonder their approval ratings are in the cellar.

The American people deserve more respect than they are getting.  We are not the idiots they think we are and I believe this upcoming election will shock them just like it did in 2010.  If the truth hurts so be it, we can take it.  It is up to us to demand honesty and integrity.  Are we going to live in a country where the motto is:

“Honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom” – Thomas Jefferson

Or:

“Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it.” – Adolf Hitler quote
