It’s possible. The state is blue. Its residents are crazy and uninformed, and nothing fuels the blue boomer losers here more than Donald Trump. National Democrats can say anything here—if it attacks Trump, these voters will believe it. Tonight, we’ll find out if the Democrats will get their 10-1 congressional map, which is outrageous, but we also lost the key elections that could’ve prevented this circus. So, what if things go belly up?
It’s certainly not good. Ninety percent of Virginians aren’t Democrats, but Democrats will frame this as a safeguard to defend our democracy, or something similar. The slogan "Disenfranchisement protects our government" is quite a statement, though it’s one historically associated with Democrats—like Jim Crow laws and rifle clubs. Look, it’s not like we didn’t have a chance to block this map. We did. But Democrats won here last year, so we have to accept the consequences, which ironically have led to Democratic Gov. Abigail Spanberger having the worst approval numbers for any governor this early in her term.
That’s the hope for an upset: enough independent voters, shell-shocked from recent events, believe Spanberger lied about being a moderate — which we all knew — but that’s a separate matter. The wave of tax hikes, taking credit for business investments that were approved under former Gov. Glenn Youngkin, and general discontent could cause a surprise, but I’m not optimistic.
What I am hopeful about is that the Voting Rights Act is set to face another setback in the Supreme Court, which would pave the way for total GOP domination of the South. The 2030 census will reallocate congressional districts and electoral votes to red states to the point where Republicans no longer need to worry about the blue wall. Reportedly, that’s why the Court is dragging its feet in releasing the opinion, to prevent states from redistricting before the midterms, which all but indicates the VRA is getting gutted.
So, Virginia Democrats might win the battle tonight, but they’ll lose the war. However, the Senate needs to eliminate the filibuster, pass the SAVE America Act, and secure our elections by mandating voter ID and ensuring only Americans can cast legitimate ballots. Oh, and they should pass whatever they want now that we no longer have to deal with the Democrats’ legislative terrorism. It does pose another challenge: keeping the heartburn caucus, you know who they are, in line.
