Don't Deport America's Miracle Anchor Baby Panda

In 2000, the United States government forcibly seized a Cuban-born baby, Elian Gonzalez, from his relatives in Miami and forced his return to the Cuban Communists.

Fast-forward to now, and the United States is willingly collaborating with another flavor of Communists, Chinese Communists, and is planning to return an unconventional anchor baby: an-American born panda born to two Chinese-born pandas. Even more humiliatingly, we keep moving up the date of this panda’s return to a communist country he’s never known.

While the 14th Amendment’s application of birthright citizenship to animals is subject to much debate, let’s stipulate that it doesn’t even matter if the panda has US citizenship. We still should not return baby Xiao Qi Ji to Xi Jinping’s China.

If the administration does not step in, our miracle panda is heading to China with its parents in a few days–moved up from the end of the year. To add insult to injury, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) hosted festivities at our taxpayer-funded Smithsonian zoo in our nation’s capital along with American defense companies.

Throughout history, China has leveraged its monopoly on pandas, and Xi has eagerly continued this practice as voraciously as Winnie the Pooh attacks a big pot of honey. This time, the Biden administration should hold fast to principles and refuse to ship America’s panda back to China. The rationale is straightforward: the Biden administration has granted so many concessions to China already, returning our potentially citizen-panda to them would be just another added humiliation for the United States.

CHINA

From allowing a CCP spy balloon to fly across our country to letting TikTok spy on tens of millions of Americans to bailing out Chinese electric vehicle battery manufacturers, Team Biden seems to know no end to its supplication to Beijing. And now we have Pandagate at our doorsteps.

We’ve given China access to everything from the White House to our children’s photo albums by letting TikTok run wild. In fact, the least we can do in return for letting China invade our airwaves via Hollywood and our airspaces via balloons would be to detain the panda parents as well.

Since Biden took office, we’ve gotten nothing from China. In fact, we justified their genocide Olympics last year; we fly John Kerry there to beg them to meet climate goals they couldn’t care less about; and we let Chinese-made fentanyl flow across our wide-open southern border, killing more Americans than COVID-19–which China also all but certainly exported to America, along with Xiao Qi Ji’s parents. Instead of young people being able to enjoy the live-action Xiao Qi Ji in our nation’s capital, they wind up dead from buying drugs laced with fentanyl courtesy of narcotraffickers and Chinese narco-chemists.

Beyond Biden’s failures, we’re seeing Chinese money flood the zone in Hollywood and professional sports. The Washington Wizards, for example, broadcast a message from China’s now-vanished foreign minister, Qin Gang, at a basketball game that looked like it was being played in Beijing, not Washington, DC. The children of Chinese diplomats dressed up in panda garb. If we deport our anchor baby panda, who may be an asylum-seeking refugee for all we know, the only pandas on display in the capital of the United States of America will be those cosplayed by the kids of Chinese emissaries!

It’s time for a change. It’s time to be strong.

Democratic President Bill Clinton caved to the Cuban communists. It’s not too late to avoid caving to the Chinese communists yet again.

I fear that if Xiao Qi Ji is returned to China, China’s sprawling spy network will interrogate him to the max, and when he’s next out on display it’ll be as a man wearing him like an expensive fur coat.

For the sake of humanity and pandamanity alike, we must not deport America’s miracle anchor baby panda.
