I want to make it clear that I appreciate all of you who read my articles, and some of you even generously comment on them in the section below. I confess I don’t have time to read all the comments on my columns, but I do try to read some of them and respond when I think maybe I can contribute. The Townhall readers—at least most of them—are the salt of the earth and the hope of the country, and I think I speak for every single Townhall writer when I say that. And when I say, “Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
People are different, of course, and have different outlooks and attitudes in life. As I’ve mentioned before (and recently wrote about), I’m a bit (no, a lot) of a cynic and tend to be somewhat pessimistic. There are readers who are more optimistic, and I applaud them and truly wish I could be more like them. Some of you think America is about to kick butt all over the world again, and be greater than she has ever been before. I do, do, DO hope you are right, and will rejoice with you if/when that happens, and eat whatever crow I’d need to eat. Happily.
But I also perceive, among some commenters, maybe a bit of a sense of…desperation? I make that a question because I can’t read their minds or motivations, but that’s just the way they come across to me sometimes. I’ve had several comments lately along the lines of, “Mark, what else can we do? We are doing all we can now, what else is there, what more can we do to save our country?” I’ve seen a few comments like that from people who see the terrible things the Democrats are doing to the nation and yearn to do something to stop it. But they don’t know what more they can do. So, they’ve asked me in the comment section if I have any ideas.
Folks, honestly, I’m sorry, but I don’t have the answer. I wish I did. I do know what is needed, but I don’t know how to accomplish it. What America requires, more than anything else, is for about 150+ million people to have a serious change of heart, to turn from their hatred, decadence, corruption, perversions, and wickedness, and become pure of heart, understanding, and willing to stand behind what isn’t a perfect country, but is the greatest nation the world has ever seen. A country that, whether they see it or not (they refuse to), or are willing to admit it or not (and they aren’t), has given them the freedom to pursue their own happiness, live as they choose, have all the hatred in their hearts that they can muster, spew their venom out at their country, and curse a blue streak every time they see a picture of Donald Trump and call him every vile name they can think of. In one of history’s greatest—and vilest—oxymorons, they hate the country that gives them the freedom to hate to their heart’s content. Lefty, try that stuff in China (substitute “Xi Jinping” for “Donald Trump”) and see how much “freedom” you have. See if they let you keep your guts inside your body. Leftist hypocrisy often rises to Mt. Everest heights.

So, yeah, I think what America needs more than anything else is for at least half the people to have a change of heart. But how do you get people to change their hearts? I haven’t the faintest idea. Jesus hasn’t been able to do it, and if He can’t, how could I (or any human) ever do it? It’s a heart problem, first and foremost, folks, and that is an individual problem, solved only individually, and one heart at a time.
Proper education would help, too, and that is why I write these articles for Townhall and on my Substacks. The ignorance in America is becoming apocalyptic, and I hope that by writing some of the things I write, I can edify and wake up some Americans who are still asleep and haven’t yet realized what is happening to their country. If I ever lose that hope, I will quit writing.
Maybe I can help a little bit with ignorance; I can’t do anything about apathy or stupidity. Jesus did say, “Don’t cast your pearls before swine,” so sometimes we just have to move on to other fields that we hope are whiter unto harvest. I can’t tell you what you can do; you’ll need to think for yourself, examine what you are doing, and see if there are any additional actions you can take to help the country. That’s up to you. If you are doing all you can now, God bless you. Just don’t give up. He’s still up there, and He can do marvelous things that we can’t even imagine. I have that hope, too.
If any of you readers have some ideas on what more can be done, please, please share them in the comments section below. I don’t have all the answers, and never claimed to. Multiple minds are better than one, and there are readers out there a whole lot smarter than I am. We’d all love to hear from you.
So, some Americans may be gloriously optimistic about the country’s future. Some are a little more guarded and concerned, but not hopeless yet. Some may be getting desperate. Some, I’m sure, have other feelings. That’s the nature of the human spirit.
One piece of advice I can give you and hope you’ll follow: Never surrender! In other words, don’t be a RINO.
