Obama is Big Brother's Keeper

It’s hard to believe that Obama falls to his knees for anyone, but apparently he does. As long as they aren't Catholic.

But no, it’s not God either that he prays to. God, too is catholic, with a small "C.".

It’s just a room with 3,000 National Prayer Breakfast attendees.

God isn’t voting in the upcoming, but the attendees are. So painfully, creakily, Obama gets on bended knee looking for votes through- not contrition or remission of sins- but rather through defiance and indulgence.

And Obama has some sins he must confess after his assault on the Catholic Church’s policy of not providing contraceptive benefits to their employees.

"Obama avoided mention in his prayer breakfast remarks of his administration's new rule requiring religiously affiliated non-profit groups to provide birth control to women," reports Reuters, "a decision that spurred fury from social conservatives and the Catholic Church."

For the Church it’s a matter of faith; faith in God that apparently is supposed to be protected under the constitution that Obama swears he’ll uphold.ObamaHalo12.jpg

Writes Bishop Timothy M. Dolan

Scarcely two weeks ago, in its Hosanna-Tabor decision upholding the right of churches to make ministerial hiring decisions, the Supreme Court unanimously and enthusiastically reaffirmed these longstanding and foundational principles of religious freedom. The court made clear that they include the right of religious institutions to control their internal affairs.

Yet the Obama administration has veered in the opposite direction. It has refused to exempt religious institutions that serve the common good—including Catholic schools, charities and hospitals—from its sweeping new health-care mandate that requires employers to purchase contraception, including abortion-producing drugs, and sterilization coverage for their employees.

Catholic bishops, who for the most part stay away from politics if they can, have rung the alarm bell with their congregations. Previously, bishops had been alarmed by the administration’s insistence that Catholic hospitals be required to perform abortion services. Catholic hospitals have said that they would close rather than provide services that are non-negotiable in the faith.

“Each year, one in six patients in the United States is cared for in a Catholic hospital, and Catholic health care facilities provide a wide range of community benefits to assist individuals and families” says the Catholic Health Association. “Often, Catholic health care providers are the “safety net” to thousands of patients in the communities they serve who cannot afford health care coverage.”

Catholic health services provide social services like breast cancer screenings, alcohol and drug treatment, community outreach and Geriatric Psychiatric Services at higher rates than state, local, private for-profit or other non-profit healthcare providers do.

In the same way, Catholic diocese, parishes and schools- and all the social services that they perform- would be forced to close under this new mandate from the Obama administration.

Forget the religious argument and ask yourself if taxpayers are better off with Catholics picking up some of the cost of healthcare in the country. Where will healthcare costs go if you remove 15 percent of all hospital beds from the supply?

You bet there is a healthcare crisis in this country. There is also spending crisis, a college tuition crisis, a real estate crisis, an energy crisis, a retirement crisis- all of which have “I am Barack Obama, and I approved this crisis” stamped on them.

To the prayer group, Obama justifies this assault on freedom of religion by citing his own faith in himself. “But part of that belief comes from my faith in the idea that I am my brother’s keeper and I am my sister’s keeper,” He told the crowd.

It’s too bad he couldn’t have brought with him the stone tablets on which he wrote Obamacare when he descended from Mount Sorento. Because now he gets to be the Church’s teacher too, destroying the idols he find us worshiping instead of worshiping him.

But it’s possible that in his fit of pique with Catholics, he may have destroyed himself as law-giver, thus denying himself the promised-land of re-election.

Because here is the great tip off: It’s not the faith Obama and his secular friends object to. It’s the competition. They just can’t stand that someone else operates hospitals- and schools and outreach- at a time when Obama is looking to nationalize them, rationalize them and generally put his own stamp of approval on anything that generates revenue.

Catholics, however, represent the largest religious voting block in the United States. Catholics are divided roughly 60-40 on the issue of abortion, but an attack on Catholics per se is likely an issue that will united Catholics, not divide them.

Catholics account for more than a quarter of the vote, says Deal Hudson with the Catholic Advocate, a conservative Catholic activist group. They are such a big voiting block that Obama’s 8 million vote majority in 2008 can be attributed to Catholic votes.

“Political and sociological analysts in several interviews and teleconferences Nov. 5, [2008] pointed out that Obama's vote among Catholics reflected a 7-point increase over the Catholic vote for [John] Kerry,” in 2004, writes Catholic News Service. Obama won the Catholic vote 54 percent to 44 percent for McCain. That 7-point difference equaled 9 million votes in 2008, many of which he can say goodbye to forever, no matter how hard he prays.

Any presidential candidate who thinks he can win after offending Catholics as a block, needs more than group prayer. He needs a conversion.

“In my moments of prayer,” Obama told the National Prayer Breakfast in his speech disguised as a prayer, “I’m reminded that faith and values play an enormous role in motivating us to solve some of our most urgent problems, in keeping us going when we suffer setbacks, and opening our minds and our hearts to the needs of others,”
