Skunks and Leakers

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

It's been interesting to note that in the back and forth between Trump administration officials and the news media over all of the leaks that continue to emanate from the White House and other government agencies, there's one aspect that needs to be mentioned much more.

And that is the fact that leaking private conversations between senior administration officials, including perhaps even the President of the United States is no less egregious than sending and receiving classified information over a "home brew" server.  As was done in the past by some very senior government officials of the previous administration.

Certainly as a result of either a slip-shod investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Justice Department, or a perfect example of unequal justice under the law - the wealthy and powerful getting a pass that others would surely go to jail for - those in the previous administration who violated countless government regulations and laws were actually no more guilty than those in the current administration who have been using leaks as a means of undermining the current president.

Leaking sensitive information - of which the conversations between the president or other senior officials certainly would qualify as 'sensitive' - is just plain wrong.  As is fabricating information to share with the media.  Both are indications that the person responsible is someone of questionable character and principles.

You see, leaking information for political purposes undermines the efforts of President Trump and his senior administration officials from moving their agenda forward.  An agenda that was voted for by the American people last November.  Anyone who doesn't want to support the president in his efforts to "make America great again" needs to resign and make way for others who do support what this president is trying to accomplish.  It's as simple as that.

And if one thinks that selectively leaking information is an accepted political practice then they are sadly mistaken.  Anyone who castigated former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for sending and receiving highly classified information over an unsecured and unencrypted e-mail server, while themselves leaking information clearly needs to take a look in Webster's Dictionary for the definition of "hypocrite".  Of course sadly many of our elected officials seem to ignore hypocrisy, considering the recent vote in the Senate on debating Obamacare.

But pursuing one's own political agenda, whether as a government servant or an elected official via 'leaks' is not only dishonorable and perhaps illegal depending on what information is being leaked, but it's also cowardly.  The actions of a gutless and spineless individual.  Lily-livered, craven and chicken-hearted also come to mind.

Perhaps it's time for those senior Trump administration officials who are not on board with the president's agenda to come out from the shadows and finally show some character.  If you don't want to be on the team, then resign and move on.  Otherwise, knock off the leaks!  It makes you no better than Hillary Clinton, the most dishonest and corrupt individual to ever run for the nation's highest office.

And personally I'd prefer wrestling with skunks than to be compared with Hillary Clinton.  At least with skunks the stench eventually washes off.
