Children’s Minnesota has announced it is resuming all services dispensing sex-rejecting drugs and surgeries for youth living a trans identity. Emboldened by a federal judge’s order blocking President Trump’s policy, which seeks to ban these radical procedures for minors, Children’s Minnesota abandoned its six-week retreat and is back to profiting from transing kids.
If science is the guide they claim, Minnesota’s premier hospital for children and those like it ought to read the latest scientific research from Finland reporting on the outcomes of trans treatments on youth over three decades.
In the first of its kind long-term study of trans-identifying minors, Finland’s researchers analyzed over 2,000 Finnish pediatric patients under the age of 23 who had received trans-medical interventions from 1996 to 2019 and compared them before and after treatment against control groups of 16,600.
The study found that referrals for “gender reassignment” were common among kids with severe psychiatric problems already. However, prescribing these adolescents cross sex hormones and “gender reassignment” surgeries did not resolve their severe mental health conditions. In fact, gender-clinic patients “showed significantly higher psychological morbidity” before treatment and two or more years after treatment compared to the control groups.
The psychiatric condition of Finnish youth receiving trans medical treatment was notably worse during follow-up—increasing from 9.8 percent to 60.7 percent for boys seeking “feminizing gender reassignment” and from 21.6 percent to 54.5 percent for girls seeking “masculinizing gender reassignment.” Researchers found these adolescents needed more specialized psychiatric care after their bodies were subjected to potent puberty blockers, cross sex hormones, and mutilating surgeries than before their treatment.

The rigorous scientific method used in Finland’s study lays bare the flimsy surveys that pro-trans researchers have manufactured as “evidence” to whitewash their claim that kids will commit suicide without “lifesaving” sex reassignment. Major U.S. medical organizations have adopted this trope as truth. Asking the question “would you rather have a dead daughter or a live ‘son’” has bullied parents into a false consent for radical treatments that deny the physical harm and ignore the real traumas facing their child.
By recognizing that severe psychiatric conditions like depression and anxiety were present before and after treatment, Finland’s study debunks the activist claim that only trans-affirmation will keep vulnerable kids off the path of self-destruction.
Finland’s experience backs up what we are seeing to be true in our country. Affirming the dead-end fantasy of trans-identity and “gender reassignment” is not lifesaving. Regret is on the rise.
No legal tangle over Trump’s authority to ban these practices can cover over what this landmark long-term scientific study is shouting. With findings like these, science will be the judge of hospital malpractice liability moving forward.
On the heels of this unavoidable research, Children’s Minnesota should be glad it was given an off-ramp from bad gender medicine preying on kids. Instead, it has chosen to reverse course and reignite the ticking time bomb of its trans-medical malpractice.
Minnesota’s temporary pause was never serious. The ongoing financial benefit of a pool of “trans kids” is a lucrative business. Propping up the transgender fantasy that keeps these young patients addicted to cross sex hormones is business Children’s Minnesota does not want to lose. Since the pediatric hospital treats youth into their mid-20s, any federal policy shackling sex-rejecting procedures on minors is removed at age 18 when kids are classified as “adults.”
The reality is that drug companies make a fortune ($1.73 billion) from pushing cross-sex hormones. Hospitals and doctors have built their practices on procedures that permanently mutilate children’s bodies.
Time will tell how this gamble works out for any children’s hospital transing kids. Under the shadow of a multi-million-dollar verdict awarded to detransitioner Fox Varian by a New York jury and a generation of young people waking up from a cultural delusion they were taught to accept, I am not betting on the hospitals’ defense.
With science in the driver’s seat, a threat bigger than the loss of federal funds now looms for pediatric gender clinics. The Finland study provides long-term evidence for upholding child-protection policies and for trial lawyers seeking to defend the growing number of young adults living the nightmare of a deceptive ideology. Fox Varian’s landmark verdict against the doctors who lied to her set a price tag of $2 million for pain, suffering, and future medical bills. It is only a matter of time before this judgment is multiplied against others.
Children’s hospitals could face a painful reckoning if they ignore this research. U.S. medical practice in states like Minnesota continues failing families and their Hippocratic oath by putting the greed of bad medicine above protecting vulnerable kids. Let Finland be a warning to wake up to the science.
