The Olympics might not happen this year (again), but the Woke Olympics continue unabated. The latest entrant to the competition is the Vice-President of the United States, Kamala Harris. Well, not the Vice-President herself directly, but the victim groups in the Democrat Party fighting over claiming her as their own and her by proxy through the left-wing media. Harris qualifies for a special medal for being both a victim and a perp in the progressive game of victimization.
Politico ran an unintentionally hilarious and telling piece that offered a peek into how the modern Democrat Party works. It’s title, “How Kamala Harris became a victim of the barriers she broke,” is perfect – only a leftist can couple accomplishment with oppression.
The story goes that Harris, whose father was black and her mother was Indian, has embraced her black ethnicity but not her Indian or, as the article puts it, Asian heritage. Politico writes, “Harris carried many firsts with her into the vice presidency. The daughter of an Indian mother and a Jamaican father, she is the first woman, Black person, Asian American, Indian American and biracial woman to serve as vice president.”
Only in Woke World can you both be “Asian American” and “Indian American,” as most people recognize the difference between the ethnicities and cultures in India and all of Asia. If she started wearing a kimono or dressed like a Geisha there would be outrage from the left, of course. But the Indian American vote wasn’t big enough for Democrats to pander to, so they rolled it into the continent and played the bigger con.
It worked, naturally, but now it’s starting to be a problem. “And after nearly four months in office, Harris faces criticism that she hasn’t struck the right balance, that she’s focused more often on being the United States’ first Black vice president than the first Asian American one,” the story continued.

This is true, and makes sense in the world of Democrat politics. Democrats have a hierarchy of skin color and ethnicity, embracing being half Indian doesn’t get the same number of votes from leftists. Indian Americans have the highest median income of any ethnic group in the United States, by a lot. The median income for Indian Americans is $135,705, beating the next group (Taiwanese Americans) by more than $30,000. Evil whitey clocks in at just $65,905, while the median black income is $43,862.
Harris is rich, and didn’t exactly grow up economically disadvantaged – both of her parents were college professors. And she didn’t really grow up on tough streets, spending her childhood in the wealthy Berkeley, California and Montreal, Quebec, in Canada. She needed some victim cred with the left.
Politico, very concerned about her political future, editorialized in a “news” story that “with the likelihood that she may one day run for president again, she has some more balancing to do.”
But she’ll never be woke enough because no one will ever be woke enough for the left. “She’s been accused of not being Black enough, criticized for not touting her Asian heritage and faulted for choosing to say she’s Asian over Indian,” Politico reports. “Some Americans are unaware of her biracial background while others forget she has any Asian heritage at all.”
Who are these people who don’t know? You can’t read a piece or watch a story about Harris without that, along with the fact that she’s a woman, being all they talk about. They have to, she doesn’t have accomplishments in the traditional sense of the word.
She got her start in politics thanks to an appointment with Willie Brown while she was having an affair with the married future Mayor of San Francisco, served as Attorney General of California and did all she could to put as many black men as possible in prison. Her tenure in the United States Senate was vacant; she accomplished nothing.
Lacking accomplishments, she touted the “historic” nature of her existence in her failed presidential campaign that saw her drop out a month before any vote was cast. As Vice President, what has she done? She’s in charge of the border and it’s a disaster, so much so that she won’t go within 100 miles of it or a reporter who might ask about it.
All Kamala Harris has going for her is the most irrelevant part of her or anyone. And the liberal establishment media is desperate to shield her from anything that might draw attention away from that. But the woke nature of the left makes it impossible to appease every group simultaneously, which ends up satisfying none of them.
The Politico story ends after recounting a meeting with Asian American lawmakers, concluding, “Like much of her career trying to juggle race, it was at once moving, emotional, historic — but not quite enough.” Nothing is ever enough for the woke mob – pander to one, offend another. That’s what happens when you treat people as groups and not individuals. It couldn’t happen to a more deserving person.
