Picking through all of the content that has piled up, we have this nugget from Sunday with Martha Raddatz as she was covering the aftermath of the Charlie Kirk assassination. She was very intent on badgering her conservative guests and getting them to condemn the comments from President Trump. It went on to become a rather embarrassing round of obsession with Raddatz.
No fewer than FOUR TIMES does she confront her guests and essentially demand that they refute his words.
GOVERNOR SPENCER COX: “President Trump said nothing about the political violence against Democrats. In fact, he blamed the radical left. What's your reaction to that? Is that something you think he should be doing?”
COLLEGE REPUBLICANS: "You’ve heard the president say he blames radical left, and basically blaming the Democrats. We’ve had a lot of political violence in this country. Assassination attempts on President Trump. The killing of a Minnesota state lawmaker. Who do you blame?"
UTAH SENATOR JOHN CURTIS: "President Trump's sons Don, Jr. and Eric, as well as President Trump, have blamed this on the radical left. Is that the right thing to do? Or what do you wish he was saying?"
JARED POLLIS: "Charlie Kirk was a good friend of President Trump and his family. But he has pointed the finger at what he calls the radical left. Is that the message you believe he should be putting out?"
Martha failed to elicit any words of criticism from her guests. Meanwhile, we have yet to see where she was leaning heavily on any commentary from Democrats, but we are still searching.

During a visit with Kate Bolduan, we have Representative Tim Burchett delivering the truth bombs on her network, blithely turning her attempt to impugn Republicans for the conflicts in this country.
Bolduan, in expected fashion, was trying to have President Trump blamed for his comments, which she says did not tone down the aggression in the country, and Burchett was having none of it:
"Well, what do you all do with it? You keep putting it out. If you all truly wanted this to change in the media, at CNN and other places, your editorial board would say, ‘We‘re not going to, we‘re not going to put this stuff out.’ But yet you continue to put it out. and that continues to stir the base." If you all truly had some objective reporting, instead of constantly attacking conservatives and Republicans, then there would be a change, I think. But there‘s not going to be a change. You all don‘t want to change down deep. Maybe you do, ma‘am, but I dare say that the vast majority of your colleagues do not."

In a “Morning Briefing” entry from Adam Kushner, as he addresses the conflict over free speech following the Charlie Kirk assassination, there is a lot to pick out of this rant, starting with his choice of words following an assassination. “Republicans have sought a new target.” Really, Adam?!
The desperation he has is seen in trying to bring up the Dylan Roof attack on a black church – a decade ago – and say that Barack Obama did not target Republicans as a result. Uh…sure, Adam. I guess the IRS scandal and the ensuing efforts to silence those on the right, including President Trump being deplatformed from social media, were not targeted efforts.

According to Frum, the assassination will lead to an obvious conclusion: Donald Trump will use this as a means to control elections:
And your—that feeling of hurt is a powerful resource for a president who is afraid he's going to lose the 2026 elections if they're free and fair, and who has been looking from the beginning for ways to make sure those elections are not free and fair. So, the emotions of Charlie Kirk supporters are a resource that President Trump and Stephen Miller and those around them are hoping to use, not against criminals, but just against people who want to vote a different way.

Just as there is this push in the media to have Republicans tone things down, there is no such call for this from the press itself. At Vanity Fair, the day after Charlie Kirk’s murder, it presented a lengthy piece about the filmmaker for "Adolph Hitler," Leni Riefenstahl, based on a new documentary about the figure.
If you are considering that there would be a connection made to the Trump administration, it only means you have been paying attention:
Riefenstahl’s estate has a lot to teach us about the contemporary political climate. The parallels between her era and ours are striking: Even today, we see the world’s richest men prostrating themselves before an aspiring autocrat, creatives and news organizations seemingly seeking to normalize a self-proclaimed king, and various organized displays of military force.
Oh yeah, sure – we’ll get right on that task of cooling down the rhetoric over here, you all just keep on lobbing those Nazi references at the right.
