'Courageous' passes $30M, nears 'Fireproof'
ALBANY, Ga. (BP) -- The church-made film "Courageous" passed the $30 million mark last week and finished No. 12 among all movies in its seventh weekend.

The movie's $1,012,220 placed it just behind "Moneyball" for weekend total gross, and its loss of 34 percent was smaller than all but one movie above it.

It has made a total of $31.5 million, which trails the $33.4 million that "Fireproof" made in 2008. Courageous was released Sept. 30. Fireproof also was released in late September in 2008 and wasn't pulled completely from all theaters until the following January. If Courageous is in theaters that long, it will easily pass Fireproof. Both movies were made by Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Ga.

The movie follows the story of five men -- four of them police officers -- as they seek to become better fathers.
