The annual speech shows a chasm between the two halves of America.

When Ilan Ramon was circling the Earth in his ill-fated Space Shuttle mission, a reporter asked an Arab Knesset member about the first Israeli’s trip to space. He begrudgingly acknowledged an Israeli floating around in space, but said that he hoped that the Zionist would not conquer space for the state of Israel.

Donald Trump gave the annual State of the Union Speech (SOTU). It was the longest ever given. While the president could be described as a businessman or real estate developer, his most notable attribute would be his stage presence. Donald Trump knows how to work a crowd, and he has the delivery and connection to his audience that make his speeches a political spectacle. Many are lauding the speech, which touched on many of the accomplishments of his first year back in the White House. As is his custom, he recognized and praised many people brought to the Capitol for the annual gathering. And as has become the custom of the Democrats, they refused to recognize any good that President Trump and his administration have done. Let’s not forget the dozens who simply blew off the speech. Those present acted as if someone had put Crazy Glue on their seats, while the Republicans looked as if their seats were molten lava, requiring them to jump out of them every minute or two.

Murder is down. Can’t clap? Can’t get up? Fentanyl is down 56 percent. Can’t stand? Military heroes? The brave and wrongfully attacked Erika Kirk? Hockey champions got a partial ovation. The Democrats’ hatred of Donald Trump and the tens of millions who voted for him is so white-hot that they cannot express either appreciation or support for people or results that are, by all accounts, good for America. The president was brilliant in asking those who see the primary task of the U.S. government as protecting American citizens to stand. There were the Democrats glued to their seats, only wishing that they had a James Bond ejection button to get them out of Trump’s tour de force.

If the sole issue was a bunch of pampered, insider stock-trading millionaires acting like little children, then we would be in pretty good shape. But one must remember that each senator and representative, including the shameless Tlaib and Omar, was elected by the voting American public. Those at home would have been furious if their guy or gal had stood up and clapped when the president mentioned Melania Trump or that inflation is down significantly from the days of Biden. A large chunk of the American populace is against the success of the United States and would rather hate Donald Trump than cheer a completely closed border. If we went back 40 or 50 years, there were still ideological divides. But if the president stood at the head of the U.S. government and announced that he had signed a treaty in America’s favor or had ended a war, all Americans—and their representatives—would have been very happy to hear such good news. Look at the absolute bipartisan support given to FDR when he came to Congress to declare war on Japan. There is a chassidic story of a woman saying to her husband that she feels that they have moved apart; he responded that he has not moved. It is a parable of God never moving, and if we feel distance from Him, then it is we who have gone off on a wrong path.

The Democrats have only one god, and that is power. They don’t want a closed border or affordable food. They don’t know whom to root for in USA versus Iran, Round Two. They like the idea of sterilizing children if only to show that God is not going to dictate whether a boy is a boy or a girl is a girl. You never seem to see the Democrats rooting for the USA. Even when the hockey stars entered the chamber, they could not muster a complete ovation. This was the first gold for the team in nearly 50 years, since the famous Miracle on Ice. Nope. If Trump is for, then we are against. If it’s good for America but goes against our rigid ideology (toxic masculinity!), then we must show our displeasure. If Donald Trump were to help an old lady cross the street, they would accuse him of sexual assault. If the Democrats’ wealth doubles due to a humming stock market and massive tariff revenue, they would never express their gratitude or appreciation. Whereas in the past, all Americans could cheer American success, a big chunk of the country and its representatives cannot cheer for America if somehow the outcome was engineered by Donald Trump or benefits normal Americans. They are pathetic, unpatriotic, sourpuss losers.

One does not have to support every one of Donald Trump’s policies. One could bring up legitimate military and security concerns regarding a possible attack on Iran (as opposed to the Tucker Carlson Qatari parrot line that the war is for Israel). But if one hears a good piece of news for the American people, how can he not express his appreciation? While I know that the Democrats want the whole third world to enter the country, what could be bad about reduced levels of fentanyl entering the country? How could one not minimally clap that fewer Americans will die with less of the deadly drug circulating in the country? Aren’t higher wages for black workers something to celebrate? Nope. If it’s good for Trump, it reduces their chances of gaining the levers of power again. They are dead set against voter ID because that might be the arrow through the heart: if they can’t cheat their way to victory, their unpopular program may simply cause the Democrats to lose over and over again. Higher taxes, an open border, endless goodies for illegal aliens, and unnecessary operations on children—these are big-time losing positions. Only having illegal aliens voting and no voter ID to allow for multiple votes and mail-in ballots can get the Democrats past their unlikable agenda.

I recently read about a Luftwaffe pilot who encountered a very badly damaged American B-17. Rather than put the crew and plane out of their misery, he escorted the crippled bomber out of German airspace. He later said he realized the crew had taken all that it could, and he was not interested in simply killing his opponents. Even in the heat of war, there can at times be humanity. The Democrats think that they are geniuses for their sophomoric stunts of skipping the SOTU, yelling, not applauding, and holding a counter-event. The American people would have been far more impressed if the opposition had shown respect and, where relevant, appreciation for outcomes that benefit the country and her citizens. But they don’t care about either; their only interest is taking, wielding, and holding power forever. What they accuse Trump of is actually true for them: if they could hold one more election and win it all, they would see no more reason for any more elections.

Donald Trump has made the most incredible political comeback in American history. He has accomplished an enormous amount in just one year back in office. Whether at home or abroad, the president has changed the country’s trajectory for the benefit of the American people. He is the most consequential politician today and has big plans going forward. The only Democrat who is not a left-wing lunatic would appear to be Sen. Fetterman, whom his fellow Democrats would love to send home. He thinks for himself, praises Trump where he thinks appropriate, and works with Republicans to move forward the business of the people. We need more like him.
