When the history of the COVID year is written, the key feature - from a freedom perspective - will be how quickly Americans acquiesced to the imposition of draconian measures on American society by healthcare bureaucrats. And, those bureaucrats, no matter how stridently they proclaimed that we must “follow the science," turned out to be ignorant of what the science is.
You will recall that initially President Trump suggested the use of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) appeared to have a salutary effect when used as either a prophylactic or remedy in the early stages of symptoms of COVID. The Left mocked and reviled that position…until the American Medical Association (AMA) declared that HCQ had a significant positive impact as a prophylactic or remedy. But, because the AMA hated Trump as much as all Leftists, that announcement was withheld until two weeks after the November, 2020 election.
It appears the AMA favors Americans suffering from COVID if it means thwarting President Trump.
Also, don’t forget the doubtable Dr. Fauci telling us we didn’t need to wear a mask in a pandemic. Then it was the only thing. Then we needed to wear multiple face masks. Then we needed a vaccine. And then, even if we were vaccinated, we needed to wear a mask, or multiple masks…unless we are Dr. Fauci at a ballgame or rioting and burning down American cities.
And how about the promise that the lockdowns and personal protection equipment (PPE) mandates would only last two weeks so the hospitals and frontline workers had plenty of PPE while treating the infected? That two weeks stretched into months, and now more than a year in some places. Businesses closed, societal pathologies exacerbated, and in some places, a continuation of Government control in lives that were only imagined by dystopian fictionists such as George Orwell and Aldous Huxley.

In the meantime, doctors and scientists, who suggested that we limit the lockdowns and rely on the science regarding who was the most at risk, were demagogued and castigated. And, where possible, with the help of the tyrants of big tech, were canceled.
But in places like Florida, where Governor Ron DeSantis followed sound counsel and freedom loving sensibility, he was able to protect the most vulnerable while allowing Floridians to exercise the mandate that falls to a free, mature, sentient being. He allowed them to be informed of the risks, make personal risk assessments, make their choices and accept responsibility for the outcomes of those decisions.
And that brings us to the Biden oligarchy. This crew only has interest in control of the American people in order to gain power. They kowtow to the teacher unions and desire to keep schools closed contrary to the science. They send COVID infected illegal aliens throughout the United States regardless of the science.
The elitist nature of the Left, coupled with the tyrannical power to control us, brings us to the realization that the lemmings of the Left demand we comply with their unconstitutional edicts. Meanwhile, the Left sends their kids to private schools, dine in ritzy restaurants, and vacation in luxurious resorts that would have been featured on the old TV show, “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.”
The Left and their Democrat operatives in Congress have used the COVID year to bring Americans into greater subjugation to our national government. In so doing, they have created an existential crisis for America.
I will continue to use every tool in the congressional toolbox to slow down the Democrat race to Gomorrah. I believe that most Americans want their elected representatives to do the same.
When the true history of this time will be written, the public health bureaucrats will be remembered with the disapprobation they have earned.
