UPDATE II: ABC7 reports that defense officials confirm that Johnson served in the U.S. Army Reserves until April of 2015. Search warrants have also been executed for Johnson’s family home.

UPDATE III: This is Micah Xavier Johnson.

UPDATE IV: Via the NYT, Johnson appears to be a lone gunman in this attack.

It appears that the dead sniper, identified as Micah X. Johnson, 25, was the sole gunman, a senior law enforcement official said. Officials at first said that at least two snipers had carried out a coordinated ambush, firing rifles from triangulated positions, including from one or more elevated posts in downtown buildings.

UPDATE V: Police say Johnson had bomb-making materials at home.

Micah Xavier Johnson, 25, has been identified as the gunman in the Dallas ambush against law enforcement that occurred last night. Twelve officers were shot, with five dying from their injuries. It was one of the worst attacks against law enforcement in 100 years. The LA Times reported that Johnson is local to the Dallas area, and that he had no known criminal history or ties to terror groups.

Dallas Police killed Johnson by sending a robot carrying an explosive device that went off in is vicinity at the El Centro College parking complex. Johnson had said that IEDs were all over the parking lot. CNN reported that that Johnson might have been the only shooter in this attack, despite reports that there were at least two gunmen.

Johnson had spoken with police negotiators, saying he was angry with white people, he wanted to kill white people, especially white police officers, and that he was upset over the police-related shooting deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile in Louisiana and Minnesota respectively.

The LA Times added that Chief Brown has vowed to find any other associates of this heinous shooting:

Police believe that the gunman who was killed “did some of the shooting,” but perhaps not all, Brown said, vowing that “of there’s someone out there associated with this, we will find you.”

Police were still investigating Friday, and “we’re working diligently to process the crime scene and find evidence,” Brown said.

“None of that makes sense. None of that is a reason to do harm to anyone,” Brown said, although he would not comment about whether the gunman appeared mentally ill.
