The Campaign Promise <em>Nobody</em> Keeps...

Ruth Marcus has a very good WaPost column today, titled:  'A New Kind of Politics'? Good Luck With That.

As she points out, "Obama has run a rather standard Democratic campaign, largely obeisant to party constituencies and allergic to difficult choices."

Marcus doesn't point this out, but one of George W. Bush's main selling points in 2000 was that he would "be a uniter, not a divider," who would, "change the tone of Washington" ... 

Obama may well win, but don't buy into the argument that he rise above partisan concerns.  If you are truly looking to buck partisanship and gridlock (frankly, I kind of like gridlock -- and so did the Founding Fathers!), McCain is the only candidate who actually has a record of working across the aisles...
