Thanks, Trump: Consumer Confidence Reaches 15-Year High

President-elect Donald Trump is taking credit for consumer confidence in the U.S. economy reaching its highest level since August 2001.

The Conference Board’s Consumer Confidence Index hit 113.7 for December, Bloomberg reported, prompting Trump to tweet, “Thanks Donald!”

“The post-election surge in optimism for the economy, jobs, and income prospects, as well as for stock prices which reached a 13-year high, was most pronounced among older consumers,” Lynn Franco, the board’s director of economic indicators, said in a statement. "Looking ahead to 2017, consumers’ continued optimism will depend on whether or not their expectations are realized.”
