Kislyak's name has been in the news constantly this year related to meetings he had with numerous members of the Trump team in 2016. Kislyak is a central figure in the investigations into Russian interference in the election.

He served as envoy since 2008, and is reportedly under consideration for a counterterrorism post at the United Nations.
