Chris Matthews Sympathizes With Newt Over Negative Ads

Really? Attack ads against Newt are an excuse for more campaign finance reform? According to Chris Matthews, that is the case.

This is not what the Founding Fathers had in mind. This is Dresden. This is a bombing campaign without a signature attached to it, and that's what's been going out here for weeks...in this case, Newt was wronged. It's hard for me to say that, but he was wronged by the system.

I'm not entirely sure how asking people who are already in elected office to create new laws that determine who will be elected in the future makes the system more fair, but maybe that's just me. As for negative attack ads not being what the Founders had in mind, let's take a brief look at their ads, courtesy of Reason TV.
