DEVELOPING: Dead Ottawa Shooting Suspect Identified, Confirmed As Canadian Born

Some alarming news out of Ottawa, Canada today. Local media outlets are reporting that there’s an active gunman still at large outside the Canadian Parliament. One soldier has reportedly been shot, and the whole area is on lockdown. We’ll continue to update this story as we learn more.

UPDATE: The AP reports this was the second attack in Canada against soldiers this week.

The incident comes just two days after two Canadian soldiers were run over — and one of them killed — in Quebec by a man with jihadist sympathies.

UPDATE: "Mr. Harper’s government has indicated that it is about to introduce new antiterrorism legislation, a move that troubles some civil liberties lawyers," the New York Times reported yesterday. What happened today, therefore, could expedite that process.
