UN Security Council Fails to Pass Resolution Condemning Syria Attack

The United Nations Security Council has failed to pass a resolution condemning the Syrian chemical attack believed to be launched by the Assad regime last Tuesday. The measure also would have approved an investigation into the chemical weapons attack. Two nations, Bolivia and Russia, both voted no. Because Russia is a permanent member, they were able to veto the resolution.

The only silver lining, Fox News notes, would be that China voted for abstention because it is a "win" for U.S. diplomacy.

President Trump is holding a press conference with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at 4 p.m. ET regarding how to respond to the Syrian attack. Meanwhile, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is in Moscow meeting both with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
