The Obama Administration: The Real Knuckleheads

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

Last week the First Lady in an attempt to be humorous made the statement that America’s young people are “knuckleheads” showing how the administration views millennials. Young people are fully capable of making their own decisions for their own lives despite what the First Lady thinks.

Being young is all about trial and error, lessons and mistakes, taking away a young person’s ability to decide what’s best for themselves doesn’t help them—it hinders them from becoming an independent adult in today’s world.

Liberals across the country are trying to create an over-protective parent that most students want to get away from, one that tells its citizens what’s best for them. Conservatives on the other hand believe in empowerment and independence—values that help people succeed.

Young America’s Foundation (YAF) has released new poll findings, with 48% of millennials believing that government is too big and too intrusive in their daily lives. This poll result depicts young people’s resentment of big government and its programs. This shouldn’t come as a surprise though seeing as millennials are the ones who will be picking up the tab for the continued reckless Washington spending.

Young people are disenchanted with the Obama administration and its broken promises. The Foundation’s recent nationwide polling shows that 68% of young people between the ages of 18 and 24 are less favorable toward Obama after he deliberately lied to the American people when he told them that if they liked their healthcare plan, they could keep it.

Our polling is consistent with the newly released CBS/New York Times poll that shows 59% of Americans are disappointed in Obama’s presidency. The sentiment among many Americans is that Obama’s policies are unpopular, but especially among the young people.

Obamacare is probably the best example of the nanny-state that liberals are trying to create. Michelle Obama honestly thinks that young people are incapable of making their own decisions and that’s why they need Obamacare. It can be argued that young people knowing the high cost of premiums in the exchange are making a sound financial decision by not enrolling. Young people are expected to subsidize healthcare for the older and sicker generation, an undue financial burden placed on their backs.

The administration is alienating the very people that they need to enroll in Obamacare in order for it to be successful. In conclusion, these numbers don’t bode well for the future of Obamacare or for the administration. Millennials’ support of Obama is rapidly declining. The White House continues to pitch to millennials the idea of talking to one another about enrolling, but young people are not willing to sign up or recommend signing up to one another. So Michelle Obama, who’s laughing now?
