Carson Would Use Education Department to Monitor Colleges for 'Extreme Political Bias'

GOP presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson sat down with Glenn Beck on his radio show Wednesday for a rapid-fire, yes-or-no interview. Beck covered everything from immigration reform to climate change, but it was the former neurosurgeon’s response to a question on education reform that stood out as a unique perspective among the current GOP field.

When asked whether he would shut down the Department of Education, Carson responded, “I actually have something I would use the Department of Education to do.”

“Would it be to pack boxes for the State Department, the IRS?” Beck jokingly replied.

“No, it would be to monitor our institutions of higher education for extreme political bias and deny federal funding if it exists,” he said.

“I like that,” Beck responded.

Some in the GOP have advocated shutting the entire department down, while others, like Donald Trump, have suggested cutting it down significantly.
